Peformance Steering Wheel
I did a search but couldn't find anything. Does anyone know if the BMW performance steering wheel works with the Z4M. I looked on BMW's website and it said it will for the Z4 3.0 but it didn't mention the M ...

Unfortunately, no - the two wheels communicate with much different systems.

How hard would it be to make it work on the M?
I thought Z4 guy's swapped M steering wheels into their car's. So if the wheel work's for the Z4 why not on the M's? Last edited by DirtBag335; 06-14-2009 at 02:48 PM.. |

I believe the Z4M's use the MSS70 computer system which is actually the same, I believe, as the E90/2 models (including M's). The steering wheel certainly works on those cars. I am curious to find out how the steering wheel interfaces with everything because I can confirm that it is an very sweet setup...

A buddy of mine has it on his 335i and it is a pretty impressive setup. There's room for improvement though. The lap timer is nothing more than a fancy stopwatch. It'd be much cooler if it could be tied in to the GPS system if your car is so equipped. Basically, prettying the button would create a marker to serve as the start/stop and would give you your lap times. It would also be insanely cool if it functioned like the TraqMate system and recorded the GPS data once that button is pressed and allowed you to download the route. Overlay the G-force data it collects and you'd have a full featured track timer and basic data logger! I digress. I'm curious to see how your project goes...
On a slight sidenote, do you know if the Performance Steering Wheel is the same diameter as ours? Smaller? Larger? It'd suck if it were larger... |

I don't believe it will work because the wheel covers are different on the Z4. I think the wheel may physically go on the car but I'm not sure how to fix the air bag and cover problem. You may be able to to buy an e90/1/2/3 air bag to fit it but that would be very expenive. Even then I'm not sure how easy it would be to make it all work and it's not something I really want to mess around with.
