Will it Ever Shrink in Chassis Size
Weight aside, every chassis seems to consistently get a wee wider, a wee longer, a wee higher. This would be the 3rd for us.
Wonder how much bigger the *H* series platform will be. |

How has the interior room changed?
I feel like the 2022 X5 has less than it should, being that the Grand Cherokee I came out of had virtually the same dimensions and at least 6 more inches inside.

Trees don’t grow to the moon, despite what many think, but no question American markets seem to demand ever bigger transportation.
Actually makes me mad as I’ve always believed in "active" safety (handling, braking, etc.) over "passive", but I’m clearly in the minority. |

My Q7, is not apple to apple with X5. Feels like a limo in the 2nd row. I guess, you got to scarify something for the 50-50 weight distribution. |

I get the feeling that BMW did this to position X7 and IX without making them too big (to avoid wasted opportunity in terms of their future models) |

I agree. For the size of the X5/X6, rear leg room is poor. Before ordering our X6, we compared it with an Audi Q8. The back seat of the Q8 felt way more spacious.

Todays x3 is about the size of a first gen x5 Heck…I'm looking at new cars for my wife and one friend suggested a rav4 prime…and I scoffed at him saying "we're not getting some sub compact mini crossover" thinking of the tiny first generation models from the 90's where the 3 door model has a length of 147 inches where the current one now is 181 inches |

I've had the three previous generations of X5 and while I agree that the second row legroom hasn't increased over time I would say that my older son (6ft 2) can comfortably sit directly behind me (also 6ft 2) so not too shabby either.
Agree with O.P. though about the overall trend in size - my main concern is that the parking spaces in my local shopping center never get any bigger to compensate! |

I see the difference every time I put groceries on the floor in the rear. With the front seats in pretty much the same position, there's considerably less room behind the front seats. I also miss that the GC had open space under the rear seat. It was a great place for the long snowbrush and other assorted items.

Agreed.....looks more stylish I suppose, but really needs to be bigger for towing.
