IDS Case for warrantied part ETA

My 50e has been in the dealership for two months with the CEL issue.
According to my service tech we are waiting for two parts but he can't tell me when they will arrive from Germany. A parts manager at a different dealership recommended that I have him open an "IDS Case" with BMW to get more info on parts ETA or availability.

Is anyone familiar with what exactly an IDS Case is or does?

I'm surprised that this wouldn't qualify as a lemon at this point.

I'm sure it does but they have me in a nice loaner so I'm giving them the opportunity to fix it at least once.
