Possible X5 purchase - what to look for?

Found an X5 my wife loves the look of and we're thinking about trading her '23 Grand Cherokee L Summit High Altitude. The X5 we're thinking about is:

2022 x-drive 40i
MSport
Sapphire Black
Black extended Marino leather interior
22" black 742M wheels
Executive pkg
MSport Professional pkg
Parking Assist pkg
Just over 9k mi
Clean Carfax & 1st service performed

What are the key things we should make sure to check out.

Best to take it to someone to have it checked out just to make sure everything is okay with it. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

You’re missing adaptive cruise control - sure you can live without it? Also at 9K with 22s, check the tires for tread, and have a plan for winter wheels/tires….

You mention that your wife loves the look of this X5. Has she driven it? The vehicle she has now is really set up as a large luxury vehicle and and I believe has air suspension. I also believe with the L it is going to have a lot more room in the rear. If you have teenagers or adults in the back often the X5 may seem a bit tight.

The engine and tranny in the X5 are in another league but the vehicle you described with MSport and 22 inch wheels is harsher riding then then already harsh riding base X5. Not sure how the roads are where you are but on the eastern seaboard I would want to take a long, long drive on the roads I frequent to be sure she (you) is/are OK with comfort levels. I would imagine there is a pretty sizeable difference here.

I should've worded my op a little differently. My wife has had BMWs (not an X5, but an M3) & I currently have a 330e as my daily driver. She wanted to order an X5 earlier this year but we missed the cut-off for the '23s & she didn't like the interior changes on the '24.

Don't like adaptive cruise at all, so not missing that feature. We have it on the GC and it's awful. Conversely, I really like the "regular" cruise on my 330e, very easy to use and control with the steering wheel buttons. I use it exclusively on my 500 mi round trip every weekend and can complete almost the entire drive simply using the left side of the steering wheel. We're in TX so winter consists of 1-2 days maybe where there might be snow or ice. In those instances, everything shuts down anyway, so no need to go anywhere.

Re: air suspension on the GC, another feature we never use. Her GC has 21's now, and I'm not overly enthused about the 22's. If we purchase I may look for some BMW 20's to swap (but they have to be black).

Her most recent vehicle prior to the GCL was a '20 GC (not the L) and the rear passenger & cargo room were sufficient. She ordered the L because she was going to need the extra room for work, but switched companies earlier this year & does not need the extra room. The L drives much larger than the standard GC, is a bit underpowered with the V6, under braked, and doesn't drive as "sporty". She's looking for a more "sporty" feel, and what I meant by she likes the looks of this one is it's the color (well almost - she wants Carbon Black) & has everything she would select if she were building out a new order.

An additional plus is the BMW dealer/service experience (at least by us) is 100x better than the Jeep dealer/service experience.

I've never driven a Jeep, but overall have driven may be 20 different cars in the past few years and specifically tested active cruise control and can confidently say that BMW's implementation is one of the best on the market. I even started to like (sort of) traffic jams as x5 is driving by itself without any interaction (if there are no turns of course), and it let me drive longer on long road trips. Can't imagine any car without this feature honestly.

As for the air suspension - I felt that a regular x5 40i suspension is more jumpy vs air one and car is less stable in turns and start/stop. Not to mention you can change the ground clearance if you need so and more comfy ride overall.

BTW - free maintenance is not transferable to a new owner.
Otherwise there should not be any major issues with this mileage and you still have 3 years of warranty coverage.

Thanks for the additional info. Dealer that has the X5 came back with a real low-ball trade offer on her Jeep, so looks like we're going to pass.

He was looking at a 22 so Ultimate Care would transfer.

Perhaps you can sell the Jeep to CarMax, Vroom, Carvana, etc.

Is the X5 at a BMW dealer? If not, I would pay for a PPI at a BMW dealer. Good luck.

The X5 is not at a BMW dealer and is 3 hours away. Had they given a fair amount for the trade it would've benefited us on the sale tax. Dealers want to use Kbb value to justify their asking price but then offered $6k less than the Kbb trade-in value for ours. We don't need to trade it just found one spec'd exactly how she wanted.

Just as an FYI, Carmax came back with the lowest offer, Carvana & Vroom didn't give me an offer. We did trade the GCL for a '22 X3 M Competition and my wife absolutely loves it
