Hi all. Just got our new xDrive50e!! Love it. But need help with a few annoying features the dealer set up for us. So far, the experience has not been relaxing because there are constant notifications and automations. Please assist!:

1. The key fob is set up to unlock and lock the car automatically depending on my vicinity. So as I’m walking in my driveway, it’s locking, unlocking, locking…very annoying. How do we stop this?
2. I turn the car on. But if I step out of the car because I forgot something in the house, the car shuts off. Leaving my family in the hot car. Is this because it’s a plug-in hybrid? Any way to keep it running if I step in and out of the car?
3. The dealer set up our Digital Key in our iPhones. Apple Wallet. That’s fine, but every single time the car locks or unlocks, a notification pops up on our phone. How do we stop this?
4. Bluetooth Apple CarPlay. Oh man, this has been tough. So everytime I pull up to the house, my wife’s phone inside automatically connects to the car. How do we stop this from happening?
5. If I am on a call as I’m entering the car, it tries to switch to Bluetooth. How do we stop this from automatically happening?
6. Sometimes when we actually want the Apple CarPlay to connect, it doesn’t. It says Bluetooth not found. We have to actually click Apple CarPlay on the screen to engage it. How can we make this more seamless?

1. There’s no way to disable this in iD8, unless you disable comfort access altogether. I hear that iD8.5 has some geofencing features which you can use to restrict where the comfort access will work. I’m not sure of it tho.

3. You’ll need to disable ALL apple wallet notifications for this. You can go to iPhone notification settings and turn off notifications for wallet. You might be able to play with settings to turn on/off banners etc.

5,6. Probably no way around that. You might be able to change phone priority order but the phone will still auto connect. This is not a new thing, happens in all cars with BT audio since forever.

iD8.5 is supposed to have geofencing for this however it looks like the version that has been installed so far does not have that capability according to some who have been updated and looked for it. Hopefully it will show up in future versions.

1. There is a setting in iDrive to change this, read the manual :P
2. This is a common complaint, there is no way around this. Some people have said you can put it in sport mode and it'll stay on, this doesn't work for me. Some other have suggested putting the car in park and then pressing the accelerator to turn on the ICE motor, I keep forgetting to try this.
3. Notifications are a phone setting refer to your phone settings.

1. You can turn off the auto unlock when approach and leaving car in the door setting on the ID8 with the LCI. I did that on my X50e and it doesnt unlock when I approach it anymore, only locks when I walk away.
2. I believe its a function of the 50e unfortunately but maybe leave the car keys inside and try opening drivers door and see? I have to try that
3. I dont have digital key set up on my Samsung S23 but no annoying notifications on the mybmw when lock or unlock but you can turn it off in the app setting on iphone
4. You can prioritize which phone to connect first to car and be the main phone so your wife's phone doesnt overtake yours when you arrive home but like others are saying its not perfect.
6. No issues with android auto so cant comment on carplay

1) in iDrive8 Comfort Access setup only keep lock, but uncheck 'unlock on approach'

Read the manual. Go to your BMW APP and there are videos that are also on YouTube. Everything stated in the post is easily remedied by a simple search 🤷🏽‍♂️

Just for clarity, there currently is no solution for issue #1. Unlock on approach can be turned off but that isn't his problem. He wants it to unlock on approach just not at home.

On #2 just press the fan or climate button and HVAC will run for approx 10 minutes, assuming is the same as 45e

1. iDrive settings - read the Owner’s manual or poke around in settings
2. Is the gas engine running? Car in sport mode? That seems to work on 40i…..
3. iPhone settings - read your iPhone user manual.
4. Tell it to forget your wife’s phone or live with it. Consider setting a hot key to speed its connection to your phone as the primary phone. That helps.
5. Working as designed. Switch back to handset via dashboard screen or via phone screen.
6. Happens. Try rebooting your phone, restarting iDrive, or giving it a minute. While I’d like it to be consistently fast, sometimes it takes a minute.

For no 2 you could use the preconditioning function when leaving. Put it on a quick access and you can activate it quickly.

Most of these are not unique to your car, the 45e has similar features and respond similarly.

On the phone bit, honestly, completely normal and almost all cars and more specifically phones do this.

For #2, I tried this trick and it worked! Car in park, then tap the accelerator. It turns on the engine and keeps the car running while we’re packing up. It’s amazing!
