Run flat tire replacement for 2022 X5

Hello All,

We have a 22 X5 (sdrive) with 20k miles on it running 315/35 R21 run flat tires (rear). I went to the dealership today for oil change and they said it has 3/32 to 1/32 tread left and needs replacement.

1. Based on the tread left, do they need to be replaced now?
2. How much do these tires typically run? Dealership quoted $700 each and discount tires said $460 each.

Thanks,

Yes, time to replace. Not sure where you are, but definite get them replace before rain come. As for cost, please check tirerack.com as a good reference. And depend on your local tire shop, they usually match tireack price. I think $700 each is about 2.5x of what the the tire cost each for 315/35/R21 summer performance runflat.

They probably should have been replaced awhile ago.

That price high. Your dealer should honor the prices on the BMW Tire shop site. I don't know what brand you want but you can get Pirelli's installed for the $1,098.90.

Replacing my barely worn (2000mile) Pirelli P zero's with Michelin Pilot Sport SUV's from Tire rack. Installed by Discount tire.
275/40R21 fronts
315/35R-21 rear
They are run flats.
Will have no use for the old tires.... Make me an offer and pay shipping.
They will be available the end of next week after the Michelins are installed.
If this post is not allowed....accept apologies and remove.

Thanks,
Definitely time to replace. I recently (July 2023) replaced my OEM RFT 21" tires after 19k miles driven when the tires were at 3/32". I went with the OEM Pirelli P-Zero RFTs. My Dealership offered a "buy 3, get the 4th free" sale. The actual "naked" price (before sales tax, mounting and balancing) was $458.82/tire Front and $477.65/tire Rear. They deducted $458.82 from that total. Mounting and balancing was $240 ($60/wheel). Net out-the-door cost for the 4 new tires, mounted and balanced including sales tax was $1,770.59. Worked out to about $443/tire. TBH, not a too bad deal considering the list price for these tires. I recommend getting a fresh 4-wheel alignment when the tires are mounted and installed (so add another $240 +/-).

That's a pretty decent deal. I recently replaced my 21" RFT's with non-run flat Pirelli Scorpion Verde A/S tires and the cost per corner was a bit higher than that. Much better ride and handling than the OEM connies that came on the car.

Please replace. My 45e with 4/10ths left was dangerously skittish in the wet. New tires fixed the problem.

Maybe “$700 each” means $1400 out the door. And that wouldn’t too bad if it included mounting/balancing and an alignment.

I’ll be in a similar situation soon, the sdrive wears those rear tires out fast. Stock conti’s made it to 16k Miles.

The pirellis I replaced the stocks with should last at least 16k. But that’s just the rears, fronts look like they should last twice that.

But I’ll probably replace all four and upsize to the all season Michelin primacy tires.
