burble and pop on m50i

Hi guys, does anyone know how to create pops and cracks on the 21 x6m50i? The car has some good cracks and pops during revs on sport plus. However, I do not hear any during the drive.

On the gle53 I noticed I could get pops and cracks by accelerating to a high rpm and just press the brake a little. I tried the same on x6m50i which is a v8(praise on bmw) compared to a straight 6 on the gle53 but it didn't work. Is there something I should try?

I am also thinking of tuning the car to create more obvious burbles as I do enjoy the sound. However I am just worried of it voiding the warranty.

Any suggestions would be highly appreciated!

Thank you!

sick! what color is that?

BTW I have experimented with setting the engine sound into sporty and putting on sport plus. I would press the gas relatively hard to 3000rpm and upon release I can hear the pops but not very loud. Then if I keep tapping the gas I would also hear it. It is not loud tho. I will change to a catless downpipe in hope to fix that. I hope people can provide easier ways for the pop to occur so I don't have to excessively tap the gas.

I don't know if it applies to the G05, but on my F90 M5C, you had to be in sports plus with the exhaust setting on (the latter is not a function on the G05) and then you would hear pops and burbles between 2500-4500rpm upon deceleration, and possibly only from 2-4th gear.

So if I was cruising slow in 2nd gear, and at 4400rpm lifted off the gas, it would pop/burble instantly, every time.

I don't know if the G05 has similar parameters that must be met, but I'm betting that being in Sports or Sports Plus is probably one of them.

New Exhaust or potentially modify it. . . see below post.
Many people don't like the overly stimulated AMG - sounds like it's trying to hard to stroke egos. It's a fine balance between sounding mean vs. cheesy.
Resonator delate below - sounds like a good balance

Burbles and pops need to be coded into the ECU. I've already asked my tuner about it. They can do it, but do not recommend it on a car that has factory catalytic converters.

Noise regulations have caused many manufacturers to make their cars quieter, compared to (essentially) the same car from a few years earlier.

interesting! How come with the catalytic converters?

whether you tune the ECU or use lower octane fuel, burbles and pops are essentially 'controlled' misfires.

unburnt fuel makes it past the combustion chamber into the cats where it ignites which decreases their life especially when subjecting OEM vehicle components to a situation that's designed to a limited tolerance.

The afterfire that causes the pops is abusive to the cats. It's "afterfire" because the unburnt fuel ignites after the combustion process and proceeds on out the exhaust. Backfires ignite in the combustion process and flame out the intake--one of the reasons they're so destructive.

You're basically popping a temporary rich condition to overload the combustion chamber's programmed ability to burn fuel so that it passes on through to be ignited in the exhaust, causing the tiny explosion down stream where the cats are

I see, thank you for your explanation. So would removing the cats itself make the pop louder?

Thanks

Yeah, and everything would become a little raspier, but there is absolutely no reason to take the cats off a street car, at all, anymore.

Is your vehicle ECU tunable???

I did have the new Supra for 3 years with pops on burbles at max with factory cat, no issues. It's tested that way.
If your cat goes bad one day after years, you'll just have to replace it... If you're way too environmentally conscious, well you'd better look for ev, fuel cell, etc. anyhow.

Maybe off-topic, but i'll say this for the first time.
I'm in for iX M60 without farts and cracks.
Hopefully in 2022.

Interesting. why is that?

I personally already ordered a cattled downpipe, I guess it's too late to change. However I am open to hear any concerns.

My understanding is it used to be removing cats would help performance. Removing modern cats doesn’t help anymore, other than additional pollution with the benefit of sounding a little cooler.

Yeah. There are better ways to make power now and cat designs are good enough that the difference in peak power isn't enough to warrant the extra emissions. The other reason we used to run test pipes was spool because we had fairly low static cr, which is why "turbo lag" was such a big deal. Modern direct injected setups run much higher static cr and have plenty of off-boost power
