Shattered windscreen
I live some 60 km south of Stockholm and tonight I was driving home doing around 130 km/h (80mph) in the dark. Suddenly there was a Big Bang and I was sprayed with glass from the windscreen. Somebody through a rock at my car from the overpass. I could stop the car safely even though the windscreen was shattered. I called 112 (911) and the police helped me out quickly. I'm so glad I had my glasses on otherwise I probably would have needed a ride to the ER. There is shattered glass all over the car and I had to get it towed since it was not safe to drive. Hopefully I will get it fixed quickly but the main thing here is that I'm ok.

I've had a similar - but much smaller version! - happen to multiple cars on the freeways. One was in Southern Germany when a car in front of me changed into my lane and just kept going right into the barrier kicking up all kinds of rocks. A bunch hit our windshield and eventually we had to replace it. Another time, a semi-truck kicked up some giant thing as I saw it fly up and then wing around in a big arc right into our windshield with a WHAP! It was an oh-shit-DUCK! moment and more/less the same outcome as yours. That said, whatever hit yours looks BIG ... but that just might be how it looks and it could've easily been a kicked up rock, bolt, or other road debris from a semi ... but it also could've been something off the overpass. |

Pretty scary. Glad you're OK.

Good that you're ok. Also, good that it hit the windshield, which is easily replaceable, instead of your roof which is welded on and would have been a nightmare to replace.

I actually change my windscreen twice a year because of cracks and stone damage. Winter roads are not funny in Sweden. Never any problems. Car is as good as new.
