Keyfob Close Windows - Distance/Proximity

Noticed the front windows were open so from inside the house, keyfob lock to close them (coded as such). Wasn't happening so I unlocked the car and locked it just to confirm the fob was talking. Which it did, but still no window closing...

Walked outside to the car, and same *keyfob press* closed the windows.

Is there some sort of definitive note that states you must within a certain proximity distance re: keyfob/window close . I should test the window open later just to duplicate the issue

I have also found that to be true on multiple cars incl BMW, Audi, MB. Seems 15--18 ft. is the sweet spot

no official distance per se, but you must be pretty close… essentially able to view all windows from your vantage point so that you can safely close all windows without bodily dismemberment

I've definitely been able to close the windows via keyfob in same/similar location - so the question is more specific to the G05.

I'll retest it again thinking it was the keyfob initially - but a quick unloc/lock of the keyfob in the same proximity confirmed it was talking....it just wasn't closing the window
Aka, if the distance of keyfob was too far to unlock/lock the car, then I knew it was a distance issue. But it did that just fine - but did not close the windows.

Trust me, this works...
Face the car, hold the key fob against your cheek (facing your cheek), open your mouth and then press the open/close button as required. I've used this for years when some distance from the car and want to confirm the lock status.

locking and unlocking can be safely done further away, so it lets you, but not when using the fob to close windows. it's a safety thing because of the risk of impingement, so it requires you to be closer to perform that specific function.

When I had a GLE I could open/close windows and sunroof on phone app, surprised X5 hasn't got this.

It's the window closest to the garage aft the roundabout. And have closed/opened windows with keyfob in this same location.

Pulled the car out of garage and parked it the same spot. Went back inside. This time windows was closed. Keyfob unlock and window rolled down. Lock - window no close....

Start walking towards the car with keyfob pressing lock. No dice. As I got close/much closer did the windows roll up
So I guess it is a proximity thing when it comes to rolling up....
Rolling down , no issues.

yup, that behavior makes complete sense from a safety perspective.

I'm thinking before the 11/22 OTA update, I -think- I might have closed the window once from this same window spot....which is greater than 5 feet !

Has anyone ever closed their window with the keyfob further than 4-5 feet ? Without doing back to back testing, the window did not start closing while I was walking towards the car testing until I literally was 5 feet in it's proximity...

This is true. You can also just put it under your chin, no need to open mouth. From what I understand, you're basically using your head as antennae.

I've used it as a party trick, but don't love the idea of using my head as an antennae regularly.

Ditto this is true. And you don't have to put the remote under your chin...you can place it anywhere on your head (temple, forehead, etc). Anytime that your car's remote fob doesn't appear to be working from the distance you're attempting to unlock or lock the vehicle...hold the remote next to your head and try again.

It's the water in your head that boosts the signal. The human brain is made up of approx 70% water. You can test this for yourself by using your head or with a bucket (or bottle) of water and your remote fob. If you walk far enough away from the vehicle to where your remote fob DOES NOT work...then hold the remote next to the bucket or bottle of water...the remote will then work.

Here's an old video that explains/demonstrates how this works:
