Some neat design features, and looks practical enough for family use.
However, I will NOT buy one unless I get a round steering wheel. Nothing more annoying than having the shape of the wheel changing in your hands when going full lock-to-lock in a parking lot. Absolute deal-breaker for me. BMW, please don't be stupid. Give us a proper steering wheel instead of that gimmick.

Proportions remind me of a Rolls Royce Cullinan SUV mixed with X7 design cues.
While I don't think it's the sexiest electric vehicle out there, it isn't bad. I fear though, instead of bringing a capable X5-equivalent electric alternative in the $60K-$80K range, they are bringing a luxury MVUV (Mini-Van Utility Vehicle), that does not look to be any more capable than a Model X and that will most likely be priced between $100K - $120K.

I’m struggling to see how this is going to be successful
Polarizing design means half the prospective EV buyers in this specific luxury SUV demographic won’t like it. 300 miles in 2022 sounds pathetic when Tesla and others are working to do 4-500 by that time (again not literally right now but when this launches, 2022+). And lastly the presumable price of an X5 sized electric BMW, it’s got to be at least $85k+, I don’t see this being a massive hit. I could be completely wrong, so we’ll see, I’m okay with that. I’m personally just disappointed in the design of all these new BMW’s. I seriously want us all to demand the head designer resign from BMW. This guy does not respect any of BMW’s historic design language, and his cars will look tacky and outdated 10 years from now (already tacky). At least the grill wasn’t the connected one we all complained about, so that’s progress. (You can literally see where the grille was supposed to connect, but now has flat black plastic in the grille connecting the two.) |

I think this is why I like it, it looks UX200-like and I like its design. Not pretty, but strangly appealing in a hybrid/electic car sort of way

Loving that interior. I'm sure I'm not the only one who will miss the S65 engine revving to 8,200 RPM's in 20 years when every car in the road is electric 😓. I hate that Petro motors will eventually be mostly extinct

Jesus Christ that's ugly. Thankfully they'll price themselves out of moving many of these things. I am NO fan of Tesla's designs- but Elon won in this this segment as far as I'm concerned.

Apart from the grill, that we just can't escape from any new BMW for this era, I like it a lot. I'm underwhelmed by the performance and range, although it is a huge improvement for BMW EVs. I think if BMW creates a M version it will have the kind of performance to rival its competitors. 0-62 in 5 seconds for a new electric SUV will be laughed at by Tesla. It's not even close. 300 mile range is also not enough to compete. I just don't understand why BMW can't do better than this. Hopefully the BMW i4 will have at least close to comparable range to the Tesla and have the performance to match as well although this is unlikely.
To me the difference between BMW EVs and Tesla comes down to performance and quality. Choose one and you've chosen which manufacturer.

Agreed. Doesn’t matter if you like Tesla or not. By the time BMW realizes this is a flop, there will be even more progress from Tesla. No worries though they can just blame covid or some other world event for it not selling well.

I know the world is going electric and I had hopes that BMW would by now be offering some decent ones with more traditional dashes and BMW styling. If they wanted to go more "futuristic" dare I say the i3 did it better. Yes, I can't believe I said that but it's true. They really missed the mark on this one. |

I mean, its just a bunch of words with no details or diagrams of the actual vehicle platform itself. So it's impossible to tell, really (IMHO).
That said, CLAR-WE means CLuseter ARchitecture With Electric, and the words you quote from that press release are: "Our new cluster architecture is geared towards electric drive trains." Hence we are back where we started. Which is, like I said in my first post, there are strong indicators that all the flowery language is really just describing an electric evolution of CLAR, and not an all new vehicle architecture. Having said all of that, it is very reasonable to ask how much any of it really matters and how much is just hair splitting. I don't think the answer to that is fully known yet. But... you look at the technology coming from companies like Rivian, and even GM's BEV3, and it's hard not to compare. A skateboard sure seems like a more flexible approach than something with a firewall and A pillar - even a non-fixed one - built into the rolling chassis. |

Wow is this thing hideous inside and out. Looks like something Kia or Hyundai would release. Actually reminds me of the Kia Soul 👎.
This will sell as bad as the i3. |

Want to point out that the 300 mile maximum range (EPA TBD?) will equate to 240 miles usable range if you use 80% threshold for "nominal" battery life.
Yes, you can charge to 100% for longer trips but not daily. I was strongly advised to keep a regular 80% charge limit on my Model S. |
