Merino Leather Care

What do you guys use to take care of your leather seats and dash (specifically the Merino leather)?

I highly recommend Leather Masters. Especially their Matte Finish conditioner.

Amazon usually has the best prices.

Gyeon Leather cleaner is also great for deeper cleaning.

This is a tricky question. What color Merino? Caring for new leather is easy and you don’t need a hardcore conditioner. The BMW and Mopar make a “Total Clean” spray that works great for everyday smudges and butt prints. BMW call theirs “PureCare Leather and Upholstery Cleaner” but it does the same thing.
It also can be used on the carpets and is ideal for new car applications. This is a ph balanced product designed for fine leather so it will work on your leather dash and armrest. This is a thin spray on, wipe off product that won’t get down in your ventilated seats and attract dirt. The thicker leather care products can get trapped in the ventilated seats and attach dirt and dust in the holes.

Leatherique Leather Care Is simply the best down the road when you leather really need conditioned and cleaned. Do a YouTube search for Leatherique Leather Care and you will see how it works. I have used it on my older air cooled 911’s and my cars always place high at Hershey.

Mopar “Total Clean” can be purchased on Amazon and is excellent product so don’t let the Mopar name scare you. Get it by the gallon and put it on your own sprayer.

I’d go with Gyeon Q2 Leather Shield especially on brand new seats, no need to clean them just apply once a year and your done.

I used Bick 4 and it worked very well. The Merino has soften and is incredible. The Nappa on the steering wheel and armrests, is not nearly as nice but still quite good.

You will get almost as many answers as you get people, I like the Zaino stuff personally (smell is awesome) and works great. That being said, no bad recommendations above really either, just use good quality products and the rest is basically preference in terms of smell, gloss etc. If you are at Walmart or Autozone looking for products, then you are probably on the wrong track buying cheap stuff, Amazon carries some of the good stuff, otherwise the good detailing websites like autogeek, detailedimage or detailersdomain have most stuff, some like Zaino is only direct or some on Amazon.

Griots makes a good smelling and of course working leather conditioner/cleaner. I use that, and one from Adams Polishes usually although I have a plethora of leather care products in general.

I use Zaino on my porcelain white in my C63, works great, removes any jean transfer from the seat and cleans up nice. I also use a little leather masters leather barrier on them to reduce the clothing color transfer and makes getting off a bit easier (not that it is that hard).

Seems like Zaino has to be purchased directly? No amazon.

Strange white stuff on dash leather in M3??

I have a 2018 M3 with only 13k miles on it and its constantly garage kept. I just recently noticed this strange white stuff in the groves of the leather patterns of the entire top of dash. Its rarely out in the sun but even if it were every day there is no way the dash leather is ruined or has an issue. I tried to clean it with damp/wet cloth and it just turned white again. What gives?

BTW: Its never been treated with anything. SHOULD I treat it? And if so, what is recommended for dash? Is this stuff recommend?: https://www.amazon.com/BMW-83-19-2-3...ct_top?ie=UTF8

Gliptone liquid Leather was my go to, and is still very good, but I switched to Zaino, and must say I like it! Matt finish conditioner. Easy to apply zero buffing. Lovely stuff , plus the owner is alright as well!

Upper dashboard on your M3 is SensaTec - synthetic vinyl with stamped grain.

Leather dashboard on the M3 would require full leather option and smooth in appearance.

You might want to try a non-leather, matte interior cleaner - Lexol, BMW, Meguires Ultimate Interior detailer

I just wiped down the entire interior of my new X7 M50i. I really like the BMW leather care as a overall treatment of the entire vehicle including dash, seats, doors, etc..

It’s a great quality product for general conditioning of Merino and Nappa leather.
Not oily and leaves a satin new look.

BMW's Leather Care works great, as does Sonax:

Should have added Sonax is excellent as well. I have used all of them and stayed with Sonax and BMW for the most part. Lexol leather cleaner is very good at removing smudges from ivory Merino and you can find it everywhere.

I'm sure a lot of people will cringe at this, but I've been using it successfully on my current and past Ivory White interiors, as well as on my silver gray/light silver gray 850CSi. I found this tip on the internet, tried it, and have been really pleased.

Mix a solution of 60% Woolite and 40% water. Spray it on the leather, and agitate it with a soft brush. I use a small leather cleaning brush, and a soft toothbrush to get in the crevices. Wipe dry with microfiber cloth. Cleans even heavy dirt, but I try not to let things get too bad. It even removes ink and blue dye from denim jeans.

To condition the leather, which I do once in a blue moon (cause I'm generally lazy, and it usually doen't need it), I use the leather conditioner from ColourLock, or Leatherique. I've found both to be equally good.

Yes don’t use anything leather related on the plastic dash in the M3. I had same in my M4s and just used a matte plastic dash wipe on it or slightly damp cloth. Leather cleaners will leave it white and damaged.
