Luxury seats worth it?
There is an old thread on this, wondering if anyone has new input. On the F15, the ventilated seats were hard and gave me a sore "rear end" after a while. So much so that I ditched the car.
The G05 adds massage to them usually. Wondering if anyone has had experience with the comfort of them? I have a very nice deal available on a G05, but it has the luxury seats. Thanks |

I am curious too about this. My old F15 with the ventilated seats made me uncomfortable at times on long trips. When I test drove the GO5 I checked the seats and it appears that the lux seats and regular seats have similar padding, something I don't think existed on the F15 So I am taking a chance and ordered the Lux seat package. If nothing else I hope the slight massage effect will help.
Regarding ventilation it was never very strong feeling but I still liked it. On a hot day I could certainly feel it evaporating moisture from my shirt. |

One thing I've always liked with BMW ventilated seats is that they do a great job cooling them down quicker after a hot soak from sitting in the sun, but they don't freeze you out like the air conditioned ones in our Ford F-350.
I certainly wouldn't give up a great deal because the vehicle had luxury seating, that's for sure.

Yes the luxury seats are indeed worth it.
I had these in my build initially and then began to question it after reading user reports of it being too hard/stiff initially due to the extra hardware for the air-pockets (massage functions at both upper and lower sections of the seat) and ventilation. So I made this one of my key focus areas during test drives. I compared the Multi-contour seats versus the luxury seats on 6 different vehicles, over an cumulative total time of 1.5-2hrs. And honestly, I couldn't tell the difference in cushioning firmness and support and neither could my wife. So the seat design is not a negative for me. For completeness, I am 6' and 190 lbs, so I am far from being small. Also I like a comfy chair, so I am a little sensitive to the physical design and support. And the massaging and ventilation functions are a positive. The latter is what attracted me to these seats in the first place. Not fond of sticky leather in hot TX summers, so I appreciate any little air flow. Now these are for ventilation only - and do not provide heated or cooled air. Apparently BMW didn't want to do temp control for the air due to fear of risk of condensation - but one can never be sure if this is indeed 100% accurate. FWIW - you can use this to set your expectations accordingly and see if these functions are worth it for you. You don't want a bad seat to ruin the overall car experience, so I highly recommend asking your local dealer to get two cars in these seats and compare both yourself and get some decent driving time in both. Nothing replaces extended seat time of course, but this will help you get started. After my test drives, I felt comfortable enough to add this back in my build. |

I drove 4.5 hours straight last weekend - no stops. Never felt numb, fidgety, edgy or uncomfortable. Stepped out at the end of the trip and didn’t feel that “middle row airplane for hours” feeling.
They’re very good seats - massage feature keeps the blood flowing. |

FWIW, luxury seats are a mandatory item in my upcoming purchase. Will not consider a configuration or model that doesn't have them.

I think after 1200 miles the seats are finally becoming more comfortable. I have whatever maxed out seats are available on my 50i.

After picking up the wife's X5, I've loved the G05's merino luxury seats. Much more padding and softer than my G30's luxury Nappa seats. Massage function also stronger. The heaters are a little slower though.

40i here in NY. I have the luxury seating package with both heating and cooling. The leather is much nicer than the premium leather in my previous 5 series. Heat function is great. I leave the cabin temp at 70 with my seats on and it is quite comfy. We have had 5 BMW's (2nd gen x5, 535,528, 5 series gt and now g05 x5) and I find that these seats are by far the best

Both, back and bottom cushion depending on the massage type selected.

Make sure set the massage to level 2 or 3. On 1 you can feel it slightly.

We tested each seat without even looking at anything other than comfort. The Merino were out of the ballpark compared to any other seat. That became a must have. We drove with the other seats and it was clear the top end seats are worth it on pure comfort alone. The rest of the seats seemed hard in comparison. I don’t care about the massage or the ventilation and they are probably a waste but man the seats are incredibly comfortable both front and rear. It would be nice if the rears reclined but other than that they were the most comfortable rears out of any of the competitors.

Yes, you can definitely feel it. Just keep in mind, it is not a shiatsu massage, it is designed to keep away fatigue and soreness. I only use them every once and awhile but my wife loves them, turns them on every time she is in the vehicle.
