Styling wise I agree with the station wagon comments. To me the Q7 is now more of a Subaru competitor than an X5 /GLE/ XC90 competitor. And Subaru win that fight in my book on price and reliability alone...looks wise it’s a draw both fugly. I see zero reasons in anyone area to put the Q7 first when looking for an SUV and even less as an overall package.

It could possibly be that it looks worse on photo though and IRL it could still look like an SUV. Still I’ll not give it a 2nd glance in my search for my next SUV. process. Last edited by solstice; 06-26-2019 at 09:19 PM.. |

Still looks like a tall station wagon. X5 looks like a body builder flexing.

I really wonder what it will look like with painted lowers. I think that might help the station wagon look a bit.
Car and Driver really liked the current Q7. It will be interesting to hear what they think of the update after driving it and then hearing that compared to the X5. I remember hearing others on this forum complaining about lack of interior storage space in the current Q7 that was a dealbreaker. One of the articles I read said that Audi has added new interior storage in the facelift. |

Apologies for bumping a 6-month old thread but finally seeing dealer pics and the giant plastic piece on the bottom of the grille is not great...Also not impressed by the base headlights, though same could be said about the X5 w/o laser lights.

I'm not a fan of the direction Audi has taken with the touch screen MMI interface. To me this is a big mistake and a regression from lessons learned with touch screens since the mid-2000's. Button and dials are easier to use while driving and voice input isn't always a reasonable replacement when you have car full of people. This is where BMW has had the right idea for a long time with multiple input methods but keeping in line with being able to feel your way while driving through the use of buttons.

Still the "look down" total touch screen controls, still the plain-Jane squashed jelly bean exterior, still the missing buttons (Auto Hold, probably others), still the unfinished-looking center console (note the missing cupholder covers). Some just cosmetic, but jeez Audi. Maybe you could design something from the 19th century at least....

We have an 18 Prestige pretty loaded...and its been a really great car. We have 3 Dobermans and a standard Poodle, so we have an X5 and Q7. X5 is def more a sport product, while the Q7 is a great hauler and long term cruiser.
I traded my S6, wrapped matte gray and tuned to 650hp for the X5. I didn't tune the Q7 due to the TD1. I'd def trade it for the SQ7. Hate the dual screen. But we'll see. I'd def buy this:

does it come standardly equipped with the usual occupant who looks down on the x5 around while being left behind in a pile of dust by them or does it share that platform with the range rover ?

why is everyone so impressed with screens all over their interiors?? seriously honestly what am I missing? every screen means one less button means taking your eyes off the road to do stuff, mundane stuff like changing the A/C controls. This is ridiculous. These top end cars exist to be the safest things on the road, with constant innovations in self driving and driver assist tech, and then, counterintuitively, they throw a bunch of screens in to make it look 'modern'.
I love idrive. I love that I have memorized the hot buttons next to the idrive controller so I never have to take my eyes off the road. If any BMW exec is reading this, NEVER EVER REDESIGN IDRIVE. LEAVE THE BUTTONS BE |

Personally, Audis are super gross with a flare of trying too hard and favorable with half brain dead don't know better people! The A8 looks so cheap inside and the middle screen looks like that cheap $8 Indian made tablet they promised for every school child stuck in there. Would've been better if it was a seamless integration without the two outlines, but hey, Audi designers are shit. Cross shopping an Audi with a BMW is a joke, it's either Benz or BMW in this price range. They are like a Kia when compared to Benz and BMW, flashy enough on the surface, but oozes with inferiority and lack of maturity in design directions and executions from the designers. |

I don't think they are that bad. Lose to bmw in handling department. But a lot of people like the looks and utility
Rs q8 looks pretty promising https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews...i-rs-q8-drive/ |

That said, the design elements in the Q7 are the reason I'm driving a BMW. Touch screens for critical controls may be trendy, but are inefficient, to be kind, and arguably dangerous, to be accurate. My 2018 had standard buttons and not even touch capability, and the nav screen was a dash popup that looked like a Mazda add-on. It was missing many of the features of identical EU models, having nothing to do with US regulations - no cupholder covers, for example, or an actual automatic parking assist, or configurable presets. The tech was generations behind BMW, in spite of the cutesy Google Earth VC display on the instrument cluster. But the materials and workmanship for what was there were excellent. The engine and transmission were superb, although throttle lag was and still is a problem, and a dual-clutch isn't the best choice IMO in an SUV. But again, reviewed and reported more reliable than many German rivals, and I couldn't dispute that. Another problem with Audi, not unlike Porsche, is that to get to the top tier of materials was pricey - way. My dash was plastic - soft plastic, and quality - but plastic. The door cards were plastic. A lot of the controls were plastic. Just using the configurator, that's what you got, even with the top level Prestige trim like mine. You could option an Audi with full leather with Audi Exclusive (the equivalent - sort of - for my full leather Merino in the G05, but more), but it would cost you around $20K extra. Yes, that's right. Even the cargo cover was extra in my car. So yes, goodbye Audi and hello BMW - and not my first rodeo with BMW either having owned a previous 3 Series, 5 Series, an M5 and a diesel F15. But to argue Audi doesn't produce a quality car is pretty far off the mainstream. Last edited by Paladin1; 02-03-2020 at 09:13 AM.. |
