In the article, Apple is working with car companies to add CarKey, hopefully BMW is one of them. It sounds pretty awesome especially ability to invite others.

I saw that as well and wondered the same thing...Can't find any answers as far as manufacturers. I only find "...NFC-compatible cars...". Given that's how BMW describes it for Android users, that should mean BMWs, but ultimately, not believable until we get actual confirmation from BMW.

Then, there's the backdrop of the fact that BMW's track record with mobile apps/devices these days is being severely tarnished by the fiasco they have going with the BMW Connected App (I, like many others, had the App stop working mysteriously around the 1st of the year and it's not worked since. Open tickets, never get callbacks, etc.). So, not sure I trust anything from BMW on this at the moment...

Apple and BMW have always worked closely together, my guess is that this will be coming by the end of the year. Apple was the laggard here, but that's par for the course – don't be first, be the _best_.

PhatBoyG I wouldn't get too excited...the software/tech on the G05 has not been the best. I wish BMW (and probably other manufacturers) would start working with these tech companies to implement technology. Apple doesn't need to be making a car and BMW doesn't need to be developing certain software & UI.

In the end, until that bridge is built, we are stuck with mediocre.

this would be fantastic if possible. I have 2 BMW key fobs, and 2 key fobs from another two cars, not including house keys. My keychain is huge and heavy. whenever I go put, i just take the fob with me, but I always am so scared to lose it and having to shell out hundreds to replace it after. using my watch/phone to get into the car would be a godsend.

lol idk if partnering with an ultra luxury brand on a worldwide stage is a great look for apple right now. but i'm all for it if it means we get it faster

Apple and BMW have already partnered on wireless CarPlay, so it could happen.

BMW is apparently launching partner with Apple Key on iOS. It is widely expected that it will be formally announced by Apple end of March.

Display key seemed like the dumbest thing ever, especially since they introduced the connected drive app. I hate carrying even the regular heavy key fob in my pocket, much less a heavier giant bulging thing that looks like an old cellphone in my pocket.

I get the display key on the 5 and 7 series because of remote control parking. Although there is no reason why that function couldn’t be added to the phone. However, what purpose does the display key have for the X5?

Interesting, my wife and I just ordered our X5 on 2/22. Since we both have iPhones, this would definitely be a cool feature. We ordered Tanzanite and the build will take about 6 weeks.

So what are your thoughts on this? If I’m reading this correctly, 2019 G05 may not work (only cars July 2020 and after). But I don’t understand why? Since we do have digital keys.

I see no reason why this can't be made to work on a MY2019 as long as you have Comfort Accra, Connected Drive Services and a bonafide BMW CD ID linked to your profile.
