iPhone does not play music with USB
I have a iPhone SE I use to store music on, got it cheaper than an iPod Touch. It has the latest iOS version on it and is plugged into the USB port in the armrest storage cubby. I am using the Apple USB C to Lightning cable.
The phone charges and is seen in iDrive. I can go through the music on it but when I play it, there is no sound. IDrive shows the song is playing but pure silence. Any ideas? My other iPhone works over Bluetooth fine. I am running 2018.57. |

Have you tried turning up the VOL knob on the car and/or your device?

Tried it in the USB A port and it worked fine, but I did unlock the phone first.
Then tried it in the USB C port unlocked and it worked. Before I unlocked it there was a message saying an accessory was trying to access the phone. This may well be an Apple issue. I need to dig into that, in the past I used a Nano and those did not lock. |

Can't you permanently unlock your phone/iPod so you don't have to do that every time?
Were you able to access all your playlists and music? I tried it this way (iPod left in the console) when I got my x5 but it just kept repeating the same song. I ended up just dumping a ton of music on the hard drive and also using my iPhone through apple play (I don't have the issues that others have). It's different than I've done in the past, but I've always got music Good luck!

I found the problem. Newer versions of iOS require you to turn off USB protection so that iDrive can play music without the phone being unlocked. Since I always kept the phone under the armrest, I never unlocked it. iDrive thought it was playing music - it could see the song list - but it really wasn't playing. Nice I flipped that setting on the phone all was well.
