You could ride a bike...
Seriously, it's a luxury car. Everyone knew what they were getting into with the X5. |

Or I could get a Tesla Model X. The X5 is my wife's car so I was a bit caught of guard when I filled it up. People might sing a different tune if it creeps up to $80/90 every time you fill up.

I’m in Atlanta,Georgia and it was around the same cost on an empty tank.
Use to own a jet ski, during lake season the gas prices always creep up every other day.... it’s about that time again. |

And looking at the cost of a fill up from empty doesn't really mean anything. It doesn't cost any more to fill up the X5 than it would cost to fill up any other luxury car getting 20+ mpg with the same size tank. If the X5 had a 15 gallon tank instead of 22.5, a complete fill up would have cost less than $50. That doesn't mean it costs less. |

Agree with you on the size of the gas tank. It's just unsettling to see it so high (and will be higher during the summer months). |

My wife fills up about once every six weeks with her X5 40e PHEV. She has a daily commute of about 32 miles. We charge overnight, each day for about 14 miles IRL electric range and pay about $10/mos, extra, for electricity. We got 35 MPG on a 6000 mile trip last summer, with NO en-route charging. If the new X5 45e has the reported electric range of 35 miles IRL, it'll be electric-only for about $20/mos.

Not for much longer. Most recent issue is that the superchargers are getting busier and busier. On a recent trip with three supercharger stops, I had to wait 10 minutes at one and almost 20 minutes at another just to get a charging spot. That's way more annoying to me than paying $72.65 for a tank of gas. The reason for the wait times were Model 3's; there were four Model 3's at one location and five at the other out of eight bays. With more and more Model 3's on the road, I don't see that getting any better.
The other reason for my comment about the Model X is that for a $100K+ car, it has zero feel of luxury and comfort. That's more important to me these days. |

In WPB FL. Price is about $68.00 to fill up from empty. Of course I drive my X5 5.0 like a stole it and in sport mode all the time and I have a 36 mile commute daily I can make it to Saturday then fill up again. Unless road trip then it is what it is.

Post price per gallon, fill up cost doesn't really matter, nor does the cost otherwise I'd own some dumb hybrid

Damn... I haven't paid more than $60 for a tank. Last two fillups from just below 1/4 tank were $54 and $55. $49 a month ago. Costco is even less if I make it over that way. Gotta love Texas!
