Using my iPhone Xs, I've been unable to play any audio through the idrive or CarPlay interface. I've tried Bluetooth and USB, phone calls, playback through both iTunes and Spotify.
I've reset, disconnected and reconnected the connections. Radio seems to work fine so the speakers are working. Software is up to date, car is two weeks old. Any help is appreciated!

Did you try turning up the volume on the iPhone itself while a song is playing?

Hi there, yes I did.
I took it back to the dealer. It was a fault, they took the car for 2 hours and reloaded the software. Problem solved
