I think this may be the best way to make yours exhaust trims to black color with out removing the rear bumper.

What kind of paint? How many coats? Any other surface prep? I assume something non-ignitable at higher temperatures and something robust/flexible enough to not chip would be appropriate?

Hope you prepped the surface before painting. It'll flake off in no time.

Before I use primer, but I found out it will make the paint too heavy, this time I put 2 coat of paint then wait for 30 mins then wet sand it a bit then put 2 more layer.

I use the same way to paint my front grill 2 months ago and the paint hold up pretty good

Just clean it up and tape up everything, put 3 coat of paint, 10 mins between each coat
You didn't rough up the surface first?

I did not, I try it on my other car, at the end I have to repaint it.

So no heat resistant paint and no surface preparation - not really a DIY guide or a how-to is it? This, is known as a "bodge".

I think this may be the worst way you can paint your exhaust tips.

The paint is heat resistance as is for the wheels, that chrome trim is not attach to the exhaust at all, is just a Decoration and I did it the same way to my front grills 2 months ago and nothing happen.

I believes you should try yours way first then we could talk the same language .
