Retrofit Soft close doors
I want to retrofit soft close doors on my 45-e.
Have searched the forum but cant really find any good topics or what the part numbers i need. Also came across this video but it looks like an aftermarket set, and i dont see why you would need to take of the window trim and force the window like he is doing Has anyone ever done this on their X5 G5 that can share their installation and part numbers you need ? |

if you want to use original parts you also have to modify the wiring. However, there are OEM parts that can be installed without modifying the wiring

Definitely do-able, I did it on my 45e that I just traded in, however to be upfront it is a lot of work involved in taking apart the doors and running the wiring.
I am 99% sure this was all the parts I used, you will need some spare 0.35 (22awg) and 0.75(18awg) wiring. It's usually more helpful to search for used parts by using the number listed for the latch, as sometimes you can find people selling them with the module attached to the latch for a lower price than buying both separately. Soft close parts: Left front latch 51217477699 Right front latch 51217477702 Left rear latch 51227477703 Right Rear Latch 51227477704 Left Front Motor 51217444677 Right Front Motor 51217444678 Left rear motor 51227444673 Right rear motor 51227444674 Soft Close version Connector x8 - 61139275058 Larger .75 connector x8 - 12520056374 Smaller connector x24 - 12520056954 Male door pin connectors x4 - 61130006664 Female door pin connectors x4 - 61130006663 Fuse box connector x4 - 61130007437 Last edited by roxxor; 08-11-2023 at 07:15 AM.. |

Did you also have to take off the outside window trim and mirror, like the do on the posted movie ? That part would make me doubt to do it because i dont have a good feeling it can be mounted back like it was original. But if its only taking appart the doors then i would do it, i already did the B&W speaker grill upgrade and that was easy |

Yes, you pretty much have to take off most of the door items to get access to the door latch area. The mirror and sill trim actually isn’t that bad, and only the drivers door is that difficult because it has the emergency key insert. The other doors don’t involve having to remove the outside door handle.

Did you also have to pull wires from the fuse box to every door ? i hope i can just replace the wire harnas from the doors without stripping the whole car to pull wires from the fusebox |

Soft close doors are highly overrated IMO. I’ve had them on two X5s and never have been able to train my family to properly use them. I wouldn’t bother.

I want to ask why too. It seems a lot of efforts and risk for very little practical or viable gain

IMO is a must option you cant not have There is not much risk its a straight forward retrofit with the original parts, you can't do anything wrong, i only need to know and hope that i dont need to pull wires from the front of the fusebox to all the doors. |

Fair enough. I guess lack of knowledge always makes thing seem risky on my side. 👍

It would be tough going to a vehicle without them. |

The most work was wiring the doors, to the back fuse box. The total installation was +/- 5 hours. Very happy with it |
