Burning smell?

Hi all,

Just took delivery of my m50i today. I’ve literally only driven about 20 miles so far. I noticed when I’ve gotten out of the car that there is this slight chemical burning smell. Is this just burn off of some chemicals that should dissipate once I’ve broken the car in? Any thoughts. I actually told the dealership not to prep the car as I will take it to a detailer over the weekend. They left the protective film on the hood which I thought might be the case but I pulled that off when I got home and still noticed the smell. Haven’t opened the hood yet. Perhaps there was something they were supposed to take out that they did not. Thanks in advance.

Normal smell for the first 1000 miles. Enjoy.

Do not worry. It is the exhaust burning off. V8 runs hot so the headers and exhausr will smell a bit

Drive it more and vary rpms to take engine through full range. Brake hard couple of times to bed in the brakes. It will all settle in.

Enjoy the car. Congratulations

Thanks so much for the reply. That’s a relief. I just opened the hood to check about an hour after I parked it. Still pretty hot under there. Can’t wait to break this in and hit up sport mode!
