Has the factory been living up to the 9/5 build date?

Manhattan Met is so amazing in all lighting conditions in person, it's beyond! It makes all other colours seem like a missed opportunity for this car. While the other colour options look good and fine, this looks extraterrestrial. However, this colour looks like s**t on X5 and X7, the shape of the car really does play a key factor here. Then again I'm biased since it's the colour I chose |

I've had my X6 M50 for about a month. I've always liked the shape of the X6 and my dealer offered me the opportunity to order one to my spec without commitment when I first read they were coming out. Needless to say I really liked it and leased it, coming out of my 18 M550 a bit early. Been very happy so far.

I saw an M50i Arctic Grey Metallic w/Tacora Red interior at a local dealer. I found the red was not as striking as depicted on the build website. I also saw an Arctic Grey Metallic X5 on the lot that had bad buffing scratches and I got scared. I always liked white & I liked how the coffee interior looked in person. (I'm coming out of a '17 X6 white/cognac)

Tacora Red was never a striking colour to begin with If you wanted red, that's not it! It's okay if offered on 2, 3, or 4 series equivalent, but on cars like X5, X6 and above, makes the car feel cheap; that's also how I feel about Vernasca. So... don't hate me |

I disagree with the above. I have a riverside blue and red M50i x6 and I get nothing but praise for the amazing spec. I think they “toned” down the pop of the red to accommodate the luxury feel. I say this because I’m almost sure that the brighter red will be avail on full M variants. Coming from a ‘16 x6 w/ Tacora red leather, this version most definitely fits the mold without being overbearing.

I'm glad you love the colour and others you encounter in your circle find it amazing. At the end of the day, it's about how you like it and what it makes you feel, who cares what anyone else has to say about it! Nevertheless, you might be aware of that most people out there think Prada and Gucci leather goods are pretty amazing and high end (cough), but the simple fact is they don't own any Hermès or high grade hide from LV and Delvaux; most find Rolex to be the pinnacle of horology (cough cough), while they might not even aware of Patek, A. Lange & Söhne or Jaquet Droz, let alone owing one; or even worse, many might consider Hugo Boss high fashion and couture, while most likely haven't even heard of Loro Piana or DG Alta Sartoria... They didn't offer a tone down red to "accommodate the luxury feel", that task is accomplished by the other colours; they did because they needed a red for a coupé-esque car. That's why no sporty-looking red for the X5 or X7 as they represent the "luxury feel", while the even numbers are more sporty intended. Tacora Red IS being offered on the X4 and there are similar red in tone on 2, 3 and 4. BMW should've had a higher grade of red available for this car, and I don't think this colour should be even offered on X6. And it's not about being bright or "toned down", it's about the dye as well as the quality and sense of luxury from the texture of the hide in conjunction with the colour (wonder why BMW is not offering this colour with Merino at all, while all the other colours have Individual Merino equivalent?). The only red option for Merino is going to be Amarone/Black for both the X5 and X6, which can only be had as a full Merino option for the 7 series and very similar to the Cricket Ball colour option from Bentley! If it's about not "being overbearing" and to "accommodate the luxury feel", shouldn't the darker and richer red of Amarone be a better choice than Tacora Red? Of course, as BMW agrees, thus Tacora Red is not offered in Merino nor in high tier cars like the 7, 8 or X7 Riverside Blue on Red is a nice combo tho, strictly from a colour blocking standpoint |
