I just had my car picked up to get the compressor and condenser replaced, it should do the trick...I don't mind the 750XI loaner in the meantime

Uh yeah...when I got home from picking up my new 2020 yesterday...I was sitting in my garage with the car running playing with iDrive settings...and had the same thing happen. At least I had been on the forums enough prior to purchase that I knew this might be coming.

:/

If you were sitting in the car fine tuning your settings did you turn ASS off? With ASS on your A/C will perform lower when the car cuts the engine. When the engine starts back up the A/C will ramp back up too. The car will probably do this 2 or 3 times before it will abort the ASS and just keep the car running; depending on hot it is.

Really appreciate this thread. My 2 week old X5M- Comp is experiencing the same intermittent A/C issues. Just sweated out a ride home and have a service appointment tomorrow.

Sorry to hear...My compressor failed in my X6, M50i as well. (Same compressor as yours...)

I only mention as there are a couple of other threads, including this one: https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1735267

I referenced a couple of other threads on the issue as well...so, you can read-up if you want!

My 2020 X5 M50 is doing the exact same thing. Started 6 weeks ago, complained to the dealer and they couldn't find anything wrong...told me to let the vehicle cool off for 15 when I start the car. (Hell no.) Weeks later it started happening again and didn't correct itself in 3 days so I took it back in and they kept it for 2 hours then told me they needed to order a compressor. It arrived weeks later, took it in and they kept my vehicle for 6 days. Just today they let me know that the compressor replacement wasn't approved by BMW and they did a "software update." This was today so I don't know if this fixed it or not. Couldn't be more pissed off about having intermittent A/C in the middle of the summer!

May I ask what makes the G06 m50i's AC compressor different from that of x40i? I haven't heard from people with G05/G06 x40i experiencing this issue.

What dealership in NJ did you went to? My AC sometimes is slow to kick in when cold starts, but always blow cold air after 5mins if didn't turn on immediately..... no idea why and my dealer cannot observe either

What kind of software update? Can we do it via remote software update? Or it has to be in the dealership? My AC sometimes slow to kick in, especially when cold starts the car. The first 5 mins or so has no AC, no matter what settings I change, but then the AC always comes back without me doing anything so far... Very annoying during summer I thinks his is more likely to be a software issue, since I have my failed compressor replaced already in March.....

When it’s not clearly identified as a compressor issue, the dealer will have to try all soft corrections first (ex: software update) to be able to let the warranty play. I had a similar issue on my Land Rover and the compressor was not working because there was not enough liquid in the cooling system. They identified a potential small leak, filled up the system again and since then no more issue.

Imagine me when my AC failed completely on my 6 day old X5M for 6-7 weeks from June into July. Interesting that they are trying to fix it via software instead of replacing the compressor. I everything my tech told me it was a mechanical issue with the AC compressor itself so i can't see how software could fix it.

Keep us posted.

Having similar problems with mine as well. I just hit the Max AC button and let it run for a few minutes and then went back to Auto. Seemed to be fine. Since I'm leasing I'm not going to make a trip to the dealer. I'll mention it when I take it in for its next annual low mileage service in January.

Just moved down to S. Florida where it's HOT every day and the AC was ok but not great. Last week there was an OTA software update and the AC seems to work much better now (colder air & higher fan speeds). Don't know how a software update can change the air temp. but i'm using lower fan speeds and raising the temp. by a degree or 2.

It goes without saying but make sure you go into the menu and turn your "Vent temperature" all the way to cold. New BMW owners will miss this simple adjustment hidden inside the menu.

Thanks Tim. I will have them check my car, although I think I will not be as lucky to get a 750i as a loaner. They told most loaners are 3 series or X2:

Ask for X5 atleast, let them know you need the space for car seats or work etc.. they are usually good with that

I just called. But they say they cannot guarantee what will be available during my appointment next Monday... can't reserve a specific car, just based on what's available by that time

I don't have a specific answer on what software update they did. That's all they told me. So far, I haven't had any AC problems since, but I've driven less than 50 miles. Will be taking a few hour road trip soon and if I have any issues I'll report back.
