I love my X5 but...

I love my X5 but there are 3 small things I would really like to change......

1: Door Mirrors - I want to be able to retract them on the move at any speed, keep them folded and then extend them again when I want, not when it gets to a certain speed. Where I live there are narrow roads where I fear for my mirrors.

2: Ride Height - I have air suspension and I would like a setting to automatically lower the ride height when I park not having to do it manually.

3: Drive Mode - I would like the car to remember my last drive mode, eg, Adaptive, when I restart.

I’m sure all of these would just need a software modification. Come on BMW!

Last option can be coded. I guess even second option can be coded to some extent. Someone already shared a thread about it.

I agree with #2. I love the slammed look when parked. My Jeep Summit would lower when in “park” automatically. Jeep’s air suspension was crude in comparison to what BMW uses but it was a neat trick. On the plus side, I now just automatically hit the lowering button when coming to a stop that way I don’t have to wait for it to lower while in park like I had to do every time in the Jeep.

#1 is illegal to drive without side mirrors in many areas.
#3 can be coded.

All in all these are first world problems that if you mentioned it outside this forum, people would think your a spoiled Diva.. Like...”My seats on my Gulfstream G650 don’t recline enough and it’s bumming me out.”

Just a correction,#3 CANNOT be coded.
You can code the default driving mode on Startup, I've coded mine to "Adaptive", but you cannot code it to remember the last driving mode you were on when you last parked & switched off.
(eg. If you parked and turned off the car in Sports+, it wont start in Sports+ if your default mode at startup is set to Adaptive).

You can however code Auto Stop/Start (ASS) to remember the last setting (off or on).

I'm hearing the 40i has the ASS button removed (perhaps a regional thing) - if so, I presume the ASS setting you mentioned won't work as it will always default to "on" as it can't be turned off anyway?

That's correct - the 2021 X5 doesn't have a way to turn off the automatic start/stop. If you hit the Sport mode button its off but that's it. The BMW Genius rep said it was because of the addition of the 48v electric motor but he also said the AS/S function is almost imperceptible because of the electric motor engaging at start to move the vehicle. I hope so. My X5 is waiting for its production to start. Can't wait to drive it.

Isn't that only true for the 40i or the hybrid version.

Actually, in the summary of codes that Trojanlaw just published, there is a code for Remember Last Driving Mode (in addition to the code for Default Driving Mode). I haven't tested it yet (but will when I can), but Trojanlaw says he tested all codes in his environment. I had tried to find this one myself in the past and failed and I don't recognize the parameter as one I tried, so I suspect it does work. Worth more testing for sure.

Hah, of course these are first world problems, I live in the first world, but living the the US you probably don’t have narrow roads with high hedges like we do and those mirrors probably cost £1k to replace 🤣

This would be a deal killer for me. I hope the ASS in 2021 is that good.

You must be a hell of a driver if your roads are narrow enough that mirrors are in danger and yet you're driving over 25mph.

Agree with #2. My wife and I are not that tall so getting on and off the vehicle without lowering the car can be annoying. M Sports package so no running board.

Yeah, that's our issue too and I can tell you that the running boards make it worse. They are too narrow to be functional, they are just ornamental. They are not at the right height to actually help you get in or out and actually end up adding a few inches you have to try to get over to get in or out. Just get used to dirty pant legs Maybe you can get yourself on a torture stretcher rack and elongate your legs

.

I can only speak to the x40i, which I purchased. I should have clarified that.

I have an x7 loaner. 40i. No ass button. It's very noticeable coming from my m50i. Some may not care. But Not being able to turn it off will be a deal breaker for many.

Solution is to code to always start in Sport. Unfortunate that BMW doesn't make the Start mode a menu option.

Tested this today, and "Remember Last Driving Mode" doesn't work.

****UPDATED****
My car is a March 03/2019 build running 11/2019.71 which is the latest OTA upgrade.

The "FESLastFunctionInterval" option only had "Nickt_aktiv" or "15min" as options.

I tried "15min", while leaving default driving mode to "Adaptive" and then back to "Comfort" - neither worked, it seems default driving mode overrides anything else.

Interesting. For completeness, would you please update your post with car market, exact model, model year and manufacture date/month, and current software version at time of test. It might also be better to discuss this further in Trojanlaw's thread.
