Laser light housing quality

Noticed some crack like lines inside the laser light housing, went to dealer, showed me other laser light with similar "crack line"; as they are asymmetrical, doesn't look like joint lines, and two laser lights have different lines, see picture.

Can anyone have a look theirs, as I believe its some quality issue.

No idea, all laser lights at this dealer are like this.
Or maybe it's an Aussi style to have these cracks

Mine either - just smooth, clear plastic. Not sure from which angle or location your photo was taken, but there's nothing like that anywhere on either of my lights. Looks like it might have occurred during installation?

Wonder if there might have been an issue with the travel to Aussi? The boat was rocking?

I checked mine earlier and dont have these cracks anywhere, and have gone over it with a fine toothcomb.

July 2020 build.

These lights costs arm and legs. I believe these are not DIY repairable or serviceable. OP, try sorting this out under warranty. Better be safe now then sorry later.

I think the general forum consensus is - not supposed to be there, and more especially since they're asymmetrical, regardless of how many other cars on the lot have them. Plenty of examples on here of cars that don't. They actually look like cracks in the plastic, which could compromise weather integrity. And these lights, as noted, cost north of $5k USD. Each.

I agree.
Will work harder with dealer for replacement as only had the car for 2 months.

Sorta hard to tell by looking on a computer monitor and I have a high res monitor but somehow they look more like scratches that mar the plastic either on the inside or outside of the lens. To me, they don't look like cracks that go all the way through the lens. Have you taken a magnifying glass, say 10x power and really looked at them to see which they are? Are you able to get any colored liquid or compressed air to enter the inside of the lens?
If they are indeed cracks, you would surely be covered under warranty. The really bothering bit is you said all the ones at that dealer had them too and the dealer is not concerned????

Went to another dealer, checked other cars, including an x5m. Turn out that it's a joint line. Just poor design as can be seen like a crack from the angle and asymmetrical.

Joint line???? I don't see where there are any joints in those areas. Your pix are really close up so its a little hard to know where those lines are. How did you determine those are joint lines? Joint lines don't take on that kind of shape either.

Finally found the area I think you are referencing - with a magnifying glass and a flashlight. Inner surface (car side) of the lower border of the exterior lens. Light needs to be angled just right to see it, but yes, looks like a mold mark of some type. Really keen eyes in Oz! I would never have noticed it until you pointed it out, but I suspect there are myriad bits and pieces of flotsam and jetsam all over the car if I took my Sherlock Holmes lens and a 1000w lamp and looked. Sometimes you just don't want to see sausage made!

Wink

Well, Crikey!

I had to go and have a look at this, so off outside i popped, beautiful crisp morning here in the UK. Well bless my pommy eyeballs it is indeed there! But come on mate, play fair, that took some looking for, its not even on the outer lens, its actually underneath the headlight under edge. But if one looks hard enough, yibidy yibbider you got yourself a manufacturing mold line! lol

the last photo shows it clearest. For those that are interested in never being able to look at your laser lights the same again, here is the go to guide (maybe make this a sticky) to spot this nearly invisible defect.

Can you guess where it is yet?

Look along the outer lower edge of the light lens, just around the curve toward the rear and you will see maybe a 2mm line on a 45 degree angle. follow that line back, looking through the outer lens to the underside you will see the mould joining on the underside of the light unit! To confirm, you heard this correct, the mould line isn't visible on the outer light lens, its actually on the underside

You have now reached boom!

for my next job, im going to remove the 3rd row seats to find a boot floor paint issue.

As you were chaps
