Brake wobble at 10k??
I did not expect this with a BMW... maybe a Nissan, but the brakes are starting to wobble when braking at high speed. Typically this means they are warping and need to be cut. Not expected at 10K miles. Anyone else have issues with brakes?

If it's warped rotors, it should be covered by warranty unless there are clear signs of abuse or damage.

Yes, I have had the same issue with the brakes at around 6k miles, brought it to dealer attention, they replaced the brake pads and resurfaced the rotors, its been fine since then...

Rotors can have this issue on any car when they are cooled too fast. Had it on my Land Rover. They were all replaced under warranty. Never wash your brake rotors when hot... 😉

All you need is brake hard and then drive through a puddle. Happened to my X1 after braking to avoid some reindeers..

The main reason discs warp is due to the driver coming from a firm stop and then waiting at traffic lights etc and keeping your brakes applied, as the discs cools the section that is clamped cools at a different rate so warps the disc. So if have just come off a freeway make sure you apply the handbrake if stationery for any length of time.

I'm wondering about the Active Cruise Control contributing to warped rotors. I live in an area with some decent hills, some are actually called mountains, LOL. They vary from about 700 to up to 1500 ft in elevation. When using the ACC the vehicle is slowed down when going downhill. Are the brakes being used or is it the tranny as I don't notice an downshifting going on? Could this possibly lead to warped rotors?

1.) I've always done this and people always ask me about it, so I'm glad to hear I'm not alone! 2.) The X5 will be my first car without a handbrake and manual or m-dct so it seems weird to push a button ... no? 3.) Is this where people use auto hold? and does auto hold use the brakes or e-brake? anybody know? |
