Please help with picking X5 m50i

All

I was originally planning to go work X40i with M sport but now planning to offer m50i. I want to keep MSRP < $90k. Also have 3 year old twins and that means have to get the balance right.

Thinking about the following specs

Carbon black
Carbon Fiber Trim
Parking Assistance Package
Premium Package
M Sport Brakes with Red Calipers
Extended Shadowline Trim
Heated Front Seats, Armrests & Steering Wheel
Space-saver spare

For interior trim I am confused between
1 Black Vernasca
2 coffee extended merino
3 black extended merino

It would be great to get any feedback on the interior. Also any suggestions on what else I should look to add within my budget and also given the family situation.

Wheel woolies. You'll need them to keep the wheels clean with MSport brakes. The dust is off the charts. Teach those 3yo twins how to wash wheels. Lol

Enjoy your new ride. And the twins.

I think you’ve got all the key items mate but may be worth adding the Tech Pack (or whatever it’s being called now as I think it changed since I ordered my M50i in January....may be part of the Prem Pack now?). Worked out better value than Parking Pack on its own and get a HUD, HK stereo etc too.

As you’re going black outside I’d go with coffee on the interior. Classy combo especially with the carbon trim. Durable too with kids especially with a good ceramic coat.

Ok. Modified it little bit

Carbon Black Metallic
20" M Star-spoke bi-color wheels, style 740M with all-season run-flat tires
Coffee Extended Merino Leather
Carbon Fiber trim
Parking Assistance Package
Premium Package
M Sport Brakes with Red Calipers
Extended Shadowline Trim
Heated Front Seats, Armrests & Steering Wheel
Space-saver spare

Including destination charge this is now for $87595 and probably at the upper end of what I would want to spend.

Does carbon fiber trim go with coffee?

Don't go with 21s.

Go with 20s.... or 22s. 21s are very hard to get tires for.

I would recommend adding rear seat heating. It's a cheap option, and well worth it, and it's one of the first things looked for during resale.

Yes, Carbon Fiber looks great with any color interior.

I wouldn't personally choose black paint, because BMW paint isn't exactly "Top quality", and black shows age/scratches quicker than any other color. But, personal preference. If black is what you want, just be prepared that it requires more maintenance than all the other colors.

I "Believe" that parking assistance comes with the premium package, doesn't it? My car has all the parking assistance stuff, and I definitely didn't add it as an option. Maybe it was the "executive" package I got.... that might be it.

I literally NEVER use the parking features.... but I guess they are nice to have

Ok...... I just looked at the new 2021 builder.... and it's completely different from what I bought in 2020.

First things first... YOU WANT the LED laser headlights..... if for no other reason than resale value. In 5 years, all BMWs will have them, and yours will look "cheap" because it's the only car on the road that doesn't. You know how when you see a 6 year old 3-series.... and it doesn't even have LED halos???? That's how your car will look.

Get the executive pack. Skip the "premium" pack.

Parking assistance?? Ehh... your call.

Downgrade to Vernasca leather.... it's still quite nice

Upgrade to 22s

You should still be able to keep the car under $90k.... but if NOTHING else, get the executive package. Apparently that is the only way you can get the laser lights in 2021

I have the carbon fiber trim with coffee on my build. It looks good to me in the 3D version of the configurator. Have you tried looking at that combo there? Use the scroll wheel on your mouse so you can zoom in to see it closer. Most of the dash/center console area is black so I think that combo will look sharp regardless of the interior color.

The merino leather is going to be softer than vernasca. Not sure if that will hold up as well to your car seats in the back. As the other poster mentioned, you will definitely want to buy some really good, thick seat protectors to protect the leather from the bottom of your car seats.

looks like a solid option ride. The CF trim may look a little odd with coffee IMO some love it though, its super personal and would recommend you try and see it in person. CF looks best with black obviously but when you get into the coffee I think you should consider something with brown hues in it, it should tie together a little better. again thats just my personal views, its as you know SUPER personal

carbon black is such a great color, I think its one of the more underrated colors. Great choice! you will love that color.

So the build below gets to $89095. It seems like parking assistance will be handy in NYC but I have removed that to stick with the original budget. It’s so easy to keep creeping up. I went from $60k for base X5 to $71k for X5 with m sport to now $90k for m50i. Most expensive add on now is executive package at $3300.

What is it about the executive package you like? I personally would pick the parking package and drop the executive package and save the rest.

The parking package comes with a drive recorder which is great, also the 360 view. Those things can be useful outside of helping with just parking.

I just went through the gruelling exercise of picking up options. As GOLFFRR said, with coffee I would pick fineline brown. Don't forget to calculate the potential discount, fees, etc. I would use a spreadsheet. My challenge was choosing DHP over factory tow hitch.

Executive Package is more bang for your buck. If you have to choose between the PP or EP... I say go with the EP.

Ok so here is personally how I would rank order the utility:

1. Parking assistance
2. Head up display - part of premium package, which is $1000.
2. I was considering swapping out PP for EP and spending $2300 more only because ninefourteener suggested the upgrade.

Also thanks for the feedback on potential misfit between coffee merino and CB trim. There are three options with brown in it:
1. Brown metallic ash grain
2. Fine line stripe brown high gloss
3. Anthracite brown

I understand that beauty is in the eye of the beholder but would love to get any feedback.

you have to get EP to get the Laser Lights... at the risk of sounding vain, if you have an M50i w/o laser lights - it just looks like you're stretching to get into that car. Laser lights complete the look of the car.

Especially on CB or TB... The blue accents flow so well with the blue of the vehicle and the calipers. Everything comes together harmoniously.

Is your budget before or after discounts/tax? Some have mentioned 8-10% off or better but it should bring you back after tax, roughly.

If you do end up getting EP - strongly consider adding in the parking package. $800 wont be the straw that breaks the camels back

IMO, never buy the All Season tire option. You end up with the lower speed limiter and they're square and not staggered which doesn't look nearly as good from the rear.
