Curious...those that are getting the drivetrain faults are you following the break in instructions? Less than 85mph and should not go above 4,500RPM for 1k miles. Either way, this has me concerned. I'm at 700 miles as we speak and problem free... knock on wood.

My manual says to not exceed 100mph and 4500rpms for the first 1200 miles. And to avoid kickdown. The night before I remember kicking it down to pass someone......

Sorry to hear about these issues.
I am about to order. Is this a widespread issue? I searched and did not see any other major issues. Are current buyers regretting the purchase? |

I agree with this. It certainly shouldn't trigger what you've experienced. |

No regrets at all. Vehicle is a joy to drive. I think this is a reality at the current state we are in with the tech in vehicles. I have friends with Audi's, Chevys, etc that have tech issues here and there on newish vehicles. I just hope we can soon update OTA.

If it stays in, or is accompanied by limp mode, or happens repeatedly, then that's different, otherwise don't worry about the occasional warning that goes away quickly.

Multiple limp modes for me. Hope with new (NOT repaired or reconditioned) transmission problem will be permanently resolved.

Well congrats on getting the vehicle back and knocking on wood for you that you have no more future issues (also crossing my own fingers that I do not experience this once I get mine!)
Happy new year as well! |

My car has been sitting with bmw since the 20th. I too have had a few issues with the Drivetrain Malfunctioning after 1000 miles. Also experienced a parking break failure, driver restraint system failure...and a host of others.

Sadly, it is the norm for first year new model vehicles to experience issues regardless of MSRP. It is the price you pay for being the first to have the newest toys. You become real world beta testers for the company. Hopefully it's a minor issue and resolved promptly without leaving you stranded or in harm's way.

Just recently picked up my G05 x5 m50d, its only got 310kms on the clock and I love it. However there has been a really strong electrical burning smell and the cooling fan remains on for up to 10 minutes once the engine is switched off. I went to start the vehicle today and got the message "drivetrain failure" the message has now disappeared. Should I continue to drive ?
