Don’t have my X5 yet but wouldn’t it be easier to just lock using the key fob when walking away? Will this work if you’ve opened the trunk or another door?
That is what I do now with my Highlander - just lock and unlock using the remote. I always listen for the chime and know that if it doesn’t sound I’ve left something ajar. |

I enabled the auto lock feature when I first got it, but I found it to be annoying when the fob was in my pocket and I was going in and out of the garage, so I turned it off. My wife asked why it couldn't be smart enough to know we were home and not engage the feature. Sounds like a good idea to me.

Do you think that if you set the nav to bring you home and let it complete the navigation so the car knows you are home..and by home I mean to use the Home location via iDrive, that then the auto lock/unlock might not keep triggering when walking around in the garage with your key with you?
Personally, I doubt it but then again when looking at the way the engineers programmed the cars, its not beyond the realm of imagination. |

Is there any setting that unlocks the vehicle when exiting? I have auto lock on but when I get out and leave the car in my garage all the doors including the liftgate stay locked. I am constantly having to go back into the house to get the key.

Turn auto-lock off and see if this setting helps.

Incidental finding
So, I have learned something interesting with auto door lock. When I leave the car in parking lot and if I am walking away parallel to car either trunk side or the front side then Auto lock works instantly. But if I am traveling perpendicular direction away from the doors then 75% of the time auto lock doesn't work and I have to use the remote key. I have tried it all ways with keys inside or outside my pocket and results are very similar. Have you guys noticed that?

Anyone ever washed the car with the fob in your pocket?
The car cycles lock/unlock constantly, I'm guessing because you're touching the surface with a soft sponge. Drives me bananas ! |

I found a pretty elegant solution. I leave the keys out of my pocket when I don't intend to unlock the car. Works like a charm.

When I wash the car, I leave the key IN the car. It won't lock, it won't try to fold the mirrors, and you can leave the music on! :-)

Uh yeah - or just leave the key in the car when you are washing or puttering around. I love that the windshield wipers activate when I’m washing the car with my key sitting inside the car. Saves me from swiping that one window. |

There is some function where if you leave the key inside and the vehicle is inactive for a period of time, it locks the doors. I was on 07/2019.39 when that happened, and it hasn't happened to me since I've been on 07/2019.49, so maybe it was a bug. I had to use my other entry options to get back in. Anyone else have this happen to them? Can this function be disabled? |
