Rear hatch auto close issue

I have comfort access and kick to open. Yesterday I kick opened the rear hatch while car was locked and started loading groceries. As I was loading, the hatch started closing down on me and hit my head

Anyone else have this issue? Even though car was locked, I had the key and it did open with the kick.

Fortunately I was able to stop the closing with my hands but it was mildly embarrassing My wife got a chuckle

Ah, I didn’t think of that. It’s possible that’s what happened. Didn’t realize it closes too with kick.

Thanks

With my dogs running around, I alway thought it was possible but it never happened to me. I tend to miss the kick sensor on my first try.

Normally there's a 1sec pause before it opens even when the sensor registers so maybe that's it?

I wish I could close the hatch with the remote.

I think you can if you hold the trunk button for like 10s but I'll have to verify

Tried it. No dice. Try it for me anyway and maybe it’s a firmware update.

What software version do you have? I swear my X3 did this. I'll try my X5 on 0.53

You need to have the car recoded to support trunk close from key fob. I know RoadkillRob has had it done and it works.

I am on my original 23. All my vehicles did this in the past. All I hear holding the button down after the gate is open is the lock unlocking again.

I suspect foul play. Some women love playing tricks.

just tried, no luck, I wonder if they removed it for a weird reason like the cornering lights

I had to have my F10 coded to allow me to close the trunk with the fob. Just contacted ************* to find out what they can code on a G05. Waiting for a response.

************* says they can code the hatch closing and the start/ stop default.

Today, while washing my car, the hose went under the rear trunk and the tailgate opened.

Where is the sensor for kick to close? I installed a hitch and didn't notice anything and now it's not working. Although in all fairness I don't know if it ever worked. 2019 w Comfort Access.

Can anyone explain why the vehicles with factory hitches do not have the kick to open? Plenty of other manufacturers have both. It's weird, and I do a kick out of habit every now and then...I must look like a real winner from others' perspectives when it inevitably fails.

BMW: Marketing Perfection and Attention to Detail (or alternately: BMW: The Ultimate Marketing Machine :-).

Apparently the stock hitch blocks the sensor. Yes, they should have thought of that at design time. Some after market hitches for G05 do not block the sensor.

And by the way, all of this kick to open drama is about the NA version of the stock hitch setup as the EU/AU stock hitch version is completely (completely!) different and kick to open still works.
