45e PHEV Load Capacity
Hi
I’ve been trying to work out the load capacity of the 45e without the back seats down. From the limited details I can glean it seems the 45e looses 50 litres of space over the standard car.... X5 40i = 550 Litres X5 45e = 500 Litres But I don’t know where the 50 litres is lost as the pics I’ve seen for the 45e don’t seem to show a raised load floor like the old F15 40e. Would the underfloor storage be counted in the load volume? I know for sure the 45e will loose that and it could be 50 litres worth.. Anybody found out more? Also interestingly it seems the standard X5 only has the same load space as the X3, both at 550 litres, sort of surprised by that. Last edited by six; 07-07-2019 at 04:18 AM.. |

What the garage told me is that the floor is 5-8cm higher than in the petrol/diesel versions. I assume that the underfloor storage is also missing in the X5 45e. Probably filled with batteries.
Documentation I received from dealer states: "Battery Position High Voltage: underfloor Vehicle rear part" The brochure of the G05 X5 40i, here in Belgium, states a 650liter-1870liter load capacity. In the original press release of the X5 45e, (september 2018) they state 500 liter. So you lose 150 liters. Quote:

Very interesting. Seems 650 litres is the correct capacity for the 40i unlike what I posted. So a loss of 150 litres is quite a chunk and as said must necessitate the floor being higher. Hmmm this is somehow a suboptimal approach as with the lower tailgate down you can’t slide items in anymore.

But you have air-suspension as standard so you can lower the car a few centimeters by pressing a button in the trunk. :-) (I never really understood the point of that functionality) |

What I was told is that there is no compartement under the trunk floor because the space is used for the batteries. So the trunk would match the trunk of the non-hybrid X5 G05 but there is nothing underneath the floor that can be used for storage. |

My guess is a lot of the lost storage capacity is that the underfloor cargo space is missing.
What I am wondering is what size fuel tank the 45e has? I am hoping for a car with a huge range. But I am concerned they shrunk the fuel tank to make room for the battery. If the 40i X5 gets more highway range then the 45e - I will need to think about paying extra for the hybrid. The other thing - with the added range of the battery - I think a lot of my driving would be with the ICE off - I think that would result in one of the quietest interiors available in any suv. Something important to me.

According to specsheets i received from my dealer while ordering yesterday, fuel tank capacity is 69L, cargo is 500L losing the underfloor space for the 45e

When I ordered mine I knew that the fuel tank was smaller but didn't occur to me that the underfloor space would be lost. In fairness though I've never used it in my X3.
You can still get the luggage compartment pack though, my dad's ordered that for his 45e. |

The functionalities of the luggage compartment pack are less impressive though. (Luckily, as is the price)
The hybrid cannot store the cover under the floor as the batteries take that space. 69l tank was also confirmed to me by the dealer and he also said the boot floor is not raised, just the storage space underneath is non existent. |

All interesting stuff.
So if the floor isn’t raised but we know the loss of capacity is 150 litres, does that sound reasonable to be ‘only’ the loss of the underfloor space. I’ve had a look and the under floor on the G05 isn’t that big to look at, certainly not compared to the F15. It’s hard to visualise what 150 air litres looks like, 150 x 1 litre water bottles?! |

floor for 45e is just 1cm higher than 30d. I did compare it today. difference is just under floor . I do not know, how do they calculate trunk space, but I load 2pc 140liters Samsonite, 2pc 102litres and 2pcs 40 liters ones. For sure there is some spaces in between these samsonites?!?!?!?
