Comfortable Driving Position

Is just can't seem to set a comfortable driving position! Upper back and bottom of thigh seem to be most uncomfortable.
I'm around 6 foot tall and 95kg / 210lb.

Any tips / tricks appreciated!

Keep on messing with it TBH! I found one I liked and kept it for a few months and one day I was like let move the lumbar down a bit... I'm not in love with the way the seat feels!!!

Thought I was the only one.

In my 540i, I got comfortable within the first few minutes.

Last week we had a 2.5 hour round trip. I had back ache at the end of the journey. I will still play around with the settings a bit more, so hopefully I wil get a comfortable position.

It's not a biggie though, as I will probably only drive the car once a month, if that.

IMO the heated and ventilated seats might be why I can’t get a perfect fit. The lack of cushioning because of the 2 might be why things always feel cockeyed ha ha.

I unfortunately have never found a position that is comfortable for extended drives.

Ok you guys, you're getting me worried here, what seats are we talking about in this topic?

Default sport seats (481)? Multi-contour (456)? With/without massage?

Multi contour merino seats. Love them. I had 1100 miles in one day and never a stiff back. The massaging feature was a godsend. I am 210lbs 6’ 3”

My trip this Summer was 4,986 miles and never got sore. I actually had two different setups saved and would switched it up every once and awhile. My wife kept saying how comfortable the seats were and how much she loved the massage.

I think there are so many different positions/settings that you can have that it can take awhile to find that perfect position(s).

Mine is multi-contour without massage or ventilation. I always get very uncomfortable on long drives despite constantly messing with the settings. I think the seats are just hard, which is probably good for durability/longevity but bad for comfort.

To be fair, I never found comfortable positions in either of my last two cars either, except our old Tundra that had cloth seats that were very comfy.

Do you have the vernasca or the merino leather? When we tried out the merino leather multi-contour seats we were amazed at how soft they were, softer than even our lexus.

I'm 6'5" so hear you!! I came from a G30 where it took me ages to find quite the right seat position. It would feel fine at first but after a longer period would cause my hips to really ache. One time I had to stop the car and allow OH to drive it was that painful (unheard of!). But once I found the right position...happily sit 5 or 6 hours straight.

I think I'm still finding the right position still in the G05, but my suggestion would be that in the G30 I found the seat needs to tip back slightly (imagine a 90 degree angle, and tip it back). It was only a small adjustment that made the difference as well.

Been dealing with an interesting issue regarding lumbar adjustment on our multi-contour (no massage/ventilation). If I roll the lumbar down and push the forward button to increase support ("fill it in"), it decreases it and increases the middle of the back. Then I need to roll it back down.

I am almost positive, when we first got the car it did not do this. Anyone else seeing this?

Also, no matter what I do I cannot get the angle for the front to point down far enough causing pressure on the legs.

Same here. Standard seats. My right thigh aches after a few minutes every single time - have been messing with the settings for a year.... I’m 6’ 185.

Ditto on mine; full Merino multi-contour. I usually find myself messing with the settings constantly over the first month or so, over lots of different roads and speeds, then leaving alone. There are some videos on how to adjust your seats (not kidding), generically - it's not a skill most of us are taught. I actually learned to adjust mine by a professional driver (Audi) outside the Nurburgring , and learned I had been doing it mostly wrong. There's a sequence, top to bottom, front to back, as well as the steering wheel, and the adjustments in the multi-contour are so configurable it would be unlikely I couldn't get a comfortable position. Part of the key is the lumbar and shoulder adjustment, and the bolsters really are there for a reason. A lot depends on driving style as well.

Just one example of many:

Been tinkering for weeks now and it just isn't working out. Got leg and back pain each time I drive.

For context I have Vernasca Sports Seats.

Thigh area and shoulders in particular are really uncomfortable.
I try using the thigh support but feels really uncomfortable after a while.

Considering getting some kind of seat cushion which is a bit of a pity !

Any tips / tricks or suggested settings really appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Have you tried tilting the seat down or up. It pivots down front or back. That might help with your thighs.

Resurrecting this old post, but it's certainly applicable to me.

I've only had the car for a month (but only driven it 400 miles), but I can't get comfortable. I have the heated/cooled messaged seats.

I can't narrow it down to any one thing, but it's my foot position and angle on the gas pedal and under the thighs. I'm not sure if I'm just not use to the very light gas pedal or if the angle of the gas pedal is just different than my previous car. It just makes my leg/calf ache as I have to hold my foot in free air kind of because the gas pedal is just feather light to me. Consequently, I've been trying to find a good seat position to alleviate that, but I'm not having luck. Maybe I just have a lead foot, lol...

Also, the seats just seem hard and the front thigh support bulges up higher than the seat position, which makes it uncomfortable to me. I'm fairly average at 5'10" and 175 lbs.

Anyone else having a hard time getting comfortable?

Angry

ive no idea what's changed in the G series BMW's but I've had so much discomfort in the new seats. My experience so far comes from the 3 x G30's ive had. first with M Sport seats, 2nd with Multi Contour (comfort in the UK) and the 3rd Multi contour massage ventilated Nappa. I’d say the latter were the worst and very hard with the least padding due to ventilation (which was pretty much useless) and the massage pads, again they were ok, but nothing I’d option for again. In fact they could become quite dangerous when cornering, as on the whole body programme it lifts you slightly on one side which forces you out of the seat of cornering in the same direction.

Every one gave me right thigh and right leg pain. I'm 5'11" and active guy, not overweight, but agree the odd accelerator foot angle plus lower seat base thigh bolsters seem to cut in to my IT band, causing serious pain when driving. This isn't the first time ive read about it across the BMW range. i tried everything to resolve it, even had MRI scans on my right hip as i though it was a mechanical issue. all came back clear.

Im due to get my new G05 with merino next week, so will see if the G05 seating position is any better. i feel your pain buddy, literally.

The real issue with these seats is that you site on them rather than in them.

Yeah, the accelerator (gas) pedal angle is definitely a point of contention. Another thing I just noticed is that the position of the gas pedal is farther to the right or off center than my Audi and the gap between the brake and gas pedal is just larger.

I miss my Audi seat. That thing was comfortable and it was the "sports" seat, not even the comfort seat.

In fairness, other than the E 3 series coupe and lower back pain , ive had zero issues with any BMW seats up until this latest generation. My 2013 X3 gave zero issues, not particularly comfy seats, but never noticed they were there if that makes sense. my 435 gran Coupe, again zero issues all the way back to my first E46 which i remember as being really comfy. ever since i got into the G30 i developed this right leg/hip/thigh pain. sold that in march, guess what my hip is improving by the day! oh and i now drive the misses audi
