Time for new X5?
My wife has a 2016 X5 x35 with 70k miles and recently we had to get the rear air suspension replaced. It has never been a sporty drive, boat like, but now it seems a little worse. We had a loaner (2020 X5 40i) and wow it was a huge difference in ride. She averages 17k-20k miles/year and we are debating if it's time for a new X5 or try to figure the wallowy suspension. The dealer mechanics looked at shocks and springs but said they look good. It sure where to go other than replacing springs and shocks just to see if it's better. But hate to spend that money and there is no difference.

DHP or dynamic handling package is probably why 2020 model handles much better.
Simply makes car handle like a small car, doesn't lean, also makes car much safer in critical situations, lots of benefits, but you have to pay to play New shocks won't change nothing on your old one, dealer told you suspension looks ok. Go for it.

DHP isn't available on the X5 40i or 50i only the X5 M50i.

Suspension aside, the G05 is a completely different car in handling and ride. I'd recommend several test drives, with and without air suspension, to see if you can get close to what you expect, and maybe try an M as suggested. You'll definitely be trading up, if you're willing to take the leap and spend the difference. My F15 was an antique in comparison.
