Self inflicted X5 battle wound
So I'm a driver that methodically picks parking spots that give me less chance of door dings, shopping carts, and keeping my distance from special drivers.
At home, your vehicles's safe domain. A place you can park in your garage and the wife/gf is well trained about car door policies. Until the damn in-laws come to visit from out of town and didn't get the damn memo. I walked out to the garage and saw something on my rear fender. Whoever was sitting in my wife's rear passenger side but no one said a damn thing to me. I had been shot from behind from a family member with no confession! Red in the face, I took a long walk to gather my thoughts and come here. So does the rear fender flare pop off? I'd rather not turn this into insurance but if this pops off it would be easy to take to a body shop or do these come pre-painted? |

I'm half wondering if you took a heat gun or a hair dryer to that area and soften up the paint a little bit if you can't just gently mend it back into place. It could yield good enough results where you can't see it unless you're right up on it - the 3' test, per say.

Take them to FAMILY court
Take it to your favorite dealers body shop and ask them what the least intrusive fix would be. Looks to me like its a very simple fix for a body shop to do without removing the trim panel. A more direct answer is that yes, that arch is removable, there have been a couple owners, one in the Philippines I believe, who bought the X-Line, removed those arches and had them painted body color. Hard to see how that could be done by a passenger. Does look like a cart ding or a door ding.

Man I hate that kind of thing...you need to just breath and let it go...I've owned many cars. they ALL take damage, road debris, curb rash, etc...I found using HQ clear wrap PPF can handle most of this situations, including yours. I fully wrapped my M50i, the entire car in clear Suntek. when done prof, it's invisible. but you need to not lose any sleep on this mark, this is a car and in a few years you will be on the next.

I suppose the next course of action regardless of car repair is what to do about the in-laws....so was it in-laws from the wife or the gf? |

Here is some closer pics, but my car was in the garage on the left side and my wife's on right side. I pictured her mom blasting my rear right passenger door and thinking nothing of it and waking in the house.
I have ppf all over the front of the car and should have gone for the sides and rear bumper. Not sure about the heat gun but will try a local shop. |

You could completely replace the arch for 200-300 With a new painted part. Taking off the arches is trivial but matching paint color is another matter especially if that is mineral white. L Filling that and repainting it may not be worth it. The part is 150 or 200 I believe.

Stay positive, breathe through it.
I recommend that before you go to extremes, you take it to your dealer and see if they can buff it out for. They deal with this kind of thing all the time and you'd be amazed what they can do. Personal experience: I backed into a push cart in my driveway (don't ask me how I didn't see it) and put two very deep six inch scratches right next to the license plate. I fumed about it for weeks, tried to polish it, and finally learned to live with it. Long story short I went in for a TCU warning light and while I was there my dealer buffed the scratches out in five minutes. A Christmas miracle! |

That is an easy fix.
You can sand it down, touch up, wet sand, polish, and you won't see it again. Whole fender flares comes out fairly easy. You want to buy your MIL a full leather handbag. It seems like a heavy metal chained handbag. Lol.

I feel your pain, just like everyone else. Take it to someone professional, and you'll never know it was there. If you have any luck like I do...if you buy a new piece, you'll end up getting hit with something else.
Sheryl Crow once said, "The first cut is the deepest"...shit happens, don't let it ruin your day. Get it down to a pro, and you'll sleep much better at night. Good luck my man! |

Thanks for the diagram, I'm going to look at the clip points when I get home and attempt once but if it doesn't come off easy then will make a body shop run to go through the motions of healing the wound.
I thinking of prepping the garage next time - lol Thanks for everyone's input. |
