What do you do with the extra mats?

My X5 (2020) came with the rubber mats as well as the carpet mats. The dealer installed the rubber mats because it was raining on the day they brought it to me. Do people put the carpet mats under the rubber mats, or do you just store them somewhere? Right now, I am hailing them around in the back.

I've been hauling the carpet mats around in the trunk as well. Although I suppose the space underneath the trunk floor could hold them as well if you don't have the spare wheel.

I tend to just use the rubber ones all year and store the carpeted ones in my garage until I turn the car in. Keep thinking I'll put the carpets ones in for summers, but I never actually do. Currently, they're wasting space in my storage compartment under cargo area until I remember to take them out of there..

didn't expect such a post but I had the same question as I have the summer matts under the rubber matts - i guess the dealer saved time and efforts. at the same time this system allows to fix the rubber ones with no problem. so far so good.

Dumb question - assuming the dealer doesn't throw any mats in do they come with floor mats? I'm getting a 2021 G06, if that matters

Vehicles come with the carpeted mats...some dealers might throw in the winter ones, but that's not a factory thing.

The winter mats are not designed to sit on top of the carpeted ones...they may not stay in place as designed...it's expected to be one or the other.

I use the rubber liners and store the carpet mats in the trunk. In my opinion, putting the rubber mats/liners on top of the carpet mats doesn't look good. The OEM rubber liners/mats fit perfectly on their own. Also, Putting them on top of the carpet mats leaves gap on the edges where dirts and water can enter the carpet mats.

Carpet all year for me. I've never had a car with rubber mats actually. I just get busy with the vacuum on a regular basis.

I keep in the rubber mats (bought them on Amazon for about half what the dealer wanted - same for the cargo mat - both BMW).

Anyway, I keep the carpet ones under the floor even with the spare tire.

Carpet mat under the rubber mats..wow. Double protections

Dude, it's easy. I sell brand new carpet mats that have come with the factory on the craigslist for $150-$200 bucks and buy the rubber mats from Amazon.

When I picked up mine, dealer threw in a rubber mat and a trunk mat. I still ordered 3D floor mat and trunk mat from weathtech. So the OEM ones are in basement gathering dust

Never layer mats. Each set of mats is designed to operate as a stand-alone mat. Layering mats could lead to hazardous situations with accelerator and or brake pedal. Generally speaking most people use one or the other full time, some of us swap out for the seasons and keep the other set in storage.

OEM mats, carpet or rubber, feature large velcro pads on the underside to allow them sit in the right position, securely.
This is not possible for the mats on top if you choose to stack them.
The top mat tends to slide and has to be corrected all the time.
Choose one set and stick with it or swap out with seasons. The carpet mats provide very little resistance to water though, so I'd go with rubber if your footwear ever gets wet whether through rain or boating etc...
