Thank you. My dealer had never heard of the issue and I tried referring them to what I have read here.

Appreciate any info you get.

Update my car is over at BMW of Watertown and so far so good. They started working on it since yest. afternoon and its not done yet. Fingers crossed every thing gets replaced perfectly without any left over bolts or scratches on the paint

In the meantime I have a base X5 40i loaner (with working AC!) and its nice to see where all of the improvements (and money) went between the models. Makes me appreciate the X5M even more.

Crap looks like the work is taking much longer than anticipated. I was able to speak to the shop foreman which is working on my X5M himself and explained due to the tight clearances and him being extra cautious with my new car looks like it won't be done until early next week which i'm fine with. Says all the extra coolers on this motor leaves zero room to work around. Ultimately i just want the car fixed 100% so rather not rush him. He also said BMW sent a regional rep out and they are all over this to prevent a bunch of buy backs and will be compensating customers for this issue. Lets see what happens....

From what he shared with me over the phone he said BMW released a new compressor with a updated part number. The issue appears that it could be a tolerance issue as the compressor wears in the metal shavings ends up clogging the valves inside causing the AC to stop working which is why they are replacing the compressor, condenser and going to flush all the lines to make sure its clear on my car.

I'll get more info next week when i go pick up the car and post up the part numbers here.

Just got off the phone with the tech working on my car and he was concerned when he pulled the compressor off my X5M and it had the same part number as the replacement compressor that BMW sent as a replacement so he reached out the regional rep and this is what he was told.

The part number is the same but the "index" number is different confirming that internally something was updated. My tech confirmed that when he had the new/old side by side my old compressor had the same part number but at the end there was a dash "01" on it while the new replacement one has "02" on it instead. I should have my car back this Wednesday so I'll know more then.

Just picked up my car from BMW of Watertown and those guys are good people. Huge thanks to Jarrod and the foreman Mike for going above and beyond. No issues with the car and looks just like it did when I dropped it off. Mike even took the time explaining the whole process to me which really makes me feel more at ease.

Below is the work they did to fix my AC issue. The new compressor has the same part number but according to the foreman that worked on my car the new one had a different index number after the part number. On my 2 hour drive home the AC was nice and cold the entire time. Hopefully this is the end of my AC issue and I finally get to enjoy my new car.

Did they make any changes in x5/x6 production because of these often ac problems?

This is why I won't get another BMW since my '15 X5M - BMW supply chain sucks.

I had a cracked windshield from delivery, and the replacement they said it will take up to a year to replace. I also had the issue with the wheel bearing/clicking noise when you turn. My paint would chip so easily, interior plastics were cheap. I was at the service center ever other day. I am so happy BMW bought it back.

It is unfortunate because the X5M is amazing and they ruin it by going cheap with their supply chain.

Thank you for all the info! Glad you have her back now with a working A/C.
I'm really really hoping that this is not a problem in 21 models.

Does anyone have/have access to the TSB? It would be nice to see the production date range of affected vehicles.

Just wanted to inform others here that if you went through a similar ordeal like me with the AC compressor failing on a brand new car you should reach out to BMWNA to work out some sort compensation.

I basically got two months payment refunded back to me since my car didn't have working AC for about 6 weeks. My dealership also helped push for this and i got it without any issues with a simple phone call to Bmwna. Took them about a week to get it approved and another couple of weeks to get the check from them. At the end I feel like BMW stepped it up and made the situation easier to swallow. Each situation will be different but its definitely worth trying if your car was out of commission for a significant amount of time.

When I picked mine up this past weekend, I talked with my trusted SA he informed me 21's should not see the issues. He was under the impression that the bad batch was for 20's and they've turned inventory for 21's. But I'll keep you posted since I live in AZ I need it to work very well!!! LOL

Model year 2021 started production 08/20.

FWIW, my F95 is a 2020 and I have 1200 miles, no A/C issues (yet). Still blows strong and cold.

Seems like the majority of the 2020 A/C issues were on the HEA vehicles.

ac issues

I have a Nov 2019 build 2020 x7 M50i with 10,000 miles and the ac stopped working on a trip from MN to CA. We stopped in Denver and they replaced the condenser and compressor. Then three days later again no air. Dropped it off at a dealer in southern CA and they said the evaporator is the issue and the part needs to come from Germany and they do not know how long it will take. They said they will give us a car to use and ship our car back to MN when it is repaired. We used BMW assist in Denver to defray hotel and food costs up to $1000. that is used up. Any ideas what I should ask for or have any of you gone through this?

I am looking at the 2021 X7 but the AC issues scares me the most. I had a 2014 X5 Diesel and the AC had exactly the same problem you guys are taking about. I think this AC issue is not new and I doubt it has really been resolved as it may be a design issue.
