Interesting, we will have to wait for someone with an FY21 to try it. |

I picked up my MY21 X40i on Wednesday also. No ASS button, and the engine actually does stop. My workaround is to drive in Sport Individual so it doesn't shut off, but I have to select that mode each time I start the car. I haven't gotten into coding yet....

Yet, if I pull up the BMW manual for a 2021 X6 VIN, a search of "auto stop/start" it says that the "feature" is there, so maybe the button has been moved to a menu choice.
A search for "mild hybrid" provide this as part of the narrative: Mild Hybrid technology Concept Part of the Mild Hybrid technology is a battery that works with a voltage of 48 volts. Mild Hybrid technology can lower the fuel consumption. Mild Hybrid technology influences the following functions. Auto Start/Stop function. Engine-Off Coasting. |

Auto start stop is an essential part for fuel economy (and comfort) in hybrid functioning. Not having it doesn't make sense in a hybrid. Part of the functionality, like mentioned above is being able the switch of the ICE while slowing down for a traffic light (without hybrid technology it would only switch off at full stop) The 45e doesn't have a have switch for ASS either. It is impossible to switch of. The button is replaced by a battery control button. But you don't need that in the mild hybrid. I guess they took away the ability to switch off ASS in the mild hybrids just like in the 45e. You can overrule it by switching the gear to sport like you did. Ps. If you only have your car for 2 days shouldn't you wait a bit before driving in sport mode all day? |

I test drove this 2021 M50i at Global BMW and the bottom is there for M50i and X5M. Seems to isolate to 40i models.

What we need is someone with the MY21 40i to code auto start-stop to remember the last setting. Then drive it in Sport mode and see if the next time it starts the auto start-stop is off. Obviously when coding the test don't code the default start mode to Sport.

Understand, just confirming it not impacting the M50 and M model since @Mrjoed asked about those models earlier in the thread.

@ rdwboulder2, may I ask if you have the small battery in the engine compartment for the ASS system ? |

A few Mild Hybrid links. I never even knew what this was about, but it will be on my upcoming X6 xDrive build tomorrow.
https://www.bmwblog.com/2020/05/06/h...id-technology/ https://www.bmwblog.com/2020/05/27/48v-bmw-51-models/ xDrive 40i has it and M50i does not, but both have auto stop/start |

While I like it sometimes, I would think that many buyers would scream at removing that option and I don't know why BMW would do so. Thy hypothesis is that there is a shutoff in the menu somewhere. But hey, I've seen a lot of other illogical decisions by BMW.

Emission rules probably.
The 48V system is giving lower emissions. Maybe some new regulations making it impossible to turn the system off? The start stop should be more fluent now because it can turn the ICE off earlier while braking before complete stop. And it can also give a little electric punch when accelerating. I don't no if it could run a couple of meters electric in a traffic jam? And you can always overrule by putting it the gear into sport. |

And if it can be switched off temporarily in a menu setting it will still be much easier to switch to sport mode. I know what most people will do. Maybe OP can confirm if ASS can still be switched off? I must admit that I my first f11 I didn't like the ASS function. In my G32 it was way better. Turning the engine on when the car in front started to move. More intuitive, not switching on and off again if starting quickly after a first stop. The 45e is even better in start - stop driving. The ICE stays off. |

Love the CF trim...wish I could have opted for that trim with my ‘20 M50i

Won't help you much I guess but according to the Belgian configurator we can now chose CF for any engine with M pack. Even a 25d.
