Floor mats

Any recommendations for floor mats that would compliment the diamond stitching pattern on the seats?

Carpet, rubber, or plastic...what are you wanting to replace the original ones with?

They don't make any wrinkled floor mats to match the seats

Anyone using WeatherTech liners? Just wondering how you install them since the OEM carpet mats use Velcro.

The BMW floor liners are pretty nice. I was able to get them at a 20% discount when I bought my X5 along with a cargo liner.

The WeatherTech mats come with a hook fasteners that replaces the stock Velcro one. Twist one out and twist the other in (they are more difficult to twist in than it sounds though). There is another thread somewhere that has pictures and there is an installation video on the WeatherTech site that show them.

I considered the Lloyd carpet mats, but honestly I feel like those would get gross after a while. My X5 is my Daily Driver so I need something more durable to the elements. That is why I am going to order the weathertech mats. They have never let me down.

Funny, I was just on the Weathertech site, a set of front driver/pass mats is $109 and come in black, tan or cocoa. BMW floor liners are $271 for the driver/pass. I like the looks of the BMW ones better but don't believe they are 2.5 times better than Weathertech, which I have been happy with for years.

Are the BMW liners made of the same type material as the WeatherTech? Also it looks like it has deep grooves in it? Do they use the Velcro?

The BMW floor liners are similar material to the Weathertech liners. They do use Velcro just like the OEM carpet mats ad fasten to the same plastic fasteners.

Price isn't the issue for me they're floor mats for an $80k car lol, but I have used the Weathertechs for years and have never had any issues. I don't see any reason to buy BMWs instead.

I have both for the rear. The quality of the BMW liners is better. Weathertech is thinner but covers the middle. It also has longer coverage by the door. A bit of concern is the locking mechanism for weathertech. There is a hole in the liner that can be an issue if someone steps on it with wet shoes, especially during winter, and end up in the carpet.

My take...
The Lloyds are best quality in carpeted versions.
The BMW are best in rubber / molded all-weather versions.
The WeatherTech provide maximum coverage, but do not provide the premium quality nor appearance of the Lloyds or BMW brands. Plus, their overbearing WeatherTech logos look cheap IMO. And I'm tired of paging through multiple-page WeatherTech ads in every automotive magazine.

I totally agree with GTF. I have had Weathertechs in all my previous vehicles and this is the first time I tried the BMW rubber floor liners. The BMW liners look and fit the car much better than the Weathertechs.

My goodness do those weathertech ads get old, but I never had them let me down. To be fair I had them in a Jeep Wrangler and Ford Explorer. So now that I drive a luxury car I think I car more about looks so it sounds like I will be buying the BMW mats. Does anyone have a link?

Just look earlier in this thread for edtreo's post, he posted a link to the BMW mats at a great price.

I immediately bought the BMW Rubber Floor Liners and swapped out the ones that came with the vehicle. Definitely not the cheapest, but I have to agree with Theultimatedrivingmachine when it comes to an $80K car I won't sneeze over a few $$$. You can save a little with getbmwparts as edtreo said. You also can get a discount as a BMWCCA member at participating dealerships. I didn't like the fit of the BMW Rubber Cargo Liner, so I opted for Weathertech's version on that and like it very much.

Mats vs liners

There are two versions of floor protection that BMW (and others) sell. One is called Floor Mats and the other is called Floor Liners. They are different from each other, know which one you want otherwise the various pricing will fool you. Weathertech sells the Liners which offer a bit more protection coverage than the BMW liners. Weathertech liners are $110 for the front two.
