How not to remove an iPhone mount

I am on the front end of driving for two weeks. I was cleaning my car today to prepare for various business meetings this week.

As I tried to reposition the old-school iPhone mount that I elected to use on this trip, that removed the bottom right AC vent blade. I called my wife who said use Krazy glue.

Exhibit A for what I do not fit in the DIY mold that I got more Krazy glue on me than on the plastic AC blade. I had to buy nail polish remover to try and get that stuff off my skin.

I doubt the BMW dealer in nearby CHA is open tomorrow and if they are that they would entertain going after a self-inflicted wound.

So what can I do to get through trolling eyes as I carry folk in my car these coming days? Is it better left alone and let my home dealer replace the whole section?

As I posted here, I did try other iPhone mounts, but nothing was working so I went back to a reliable mount that give me a good working position for running three radar detectors at one time along with Waze, Escort Live, and V1 Driver.

Below is a photo of the missing blade and the malicious mount.

I say leave it off and likely no one will notice. There was another member who broke his off also, I think it was an air freshener in that case.

I broke mine off in my M850i with a similar mount, took it to dealer and they ordrered an entire new vent under warranty. Took a couple weeks to get from Germany. Hopefully will get it installed this week. I have since moved to a cup phone holder, which kills a cupholder for cups but does work very well. I can take a pic if desired. These blades are clearly plastic. In our 2018 Q7 (getting picked up by new owners on Tuesday) they seemed to be metal and never had an issue after 3 years of constant use.

Thanks so that tells me there is nothing a nearby dealer can do for me today even if they are open. The ironic thing is that my final stop on this trip is Greenville, but obviously the plant is of no benefit for such things.

I started a thread here about a cup holder and the one I bought from Amazon failed to work so I returned it.

Please show me what you are using. I can drive to Best Buy today or have Amazon deliver something before leaving my present location on Friday.

Why do you need to mount your phone in the first place? Carplay not enough for you?

Actually, reading your thread, I'm using the same Topgo you mentioned. I have a S20 Ultra so it is a big phone and it is working for me just fine so far.

If you click on the link above (#4), you will see that I make a distinction between being on the open road versus a daily commute at home.

I use the same mount. And the reason is, my ride didn’t have wireless charging but placing the phone on the card reader slot constantly challenges Apple Pay and it drains the battery. For long drives I usually need both cup holders for my wife and I but I don’t like having it in the console to charge.

Well, no one mentioned using TopGo in my original thread and last night I ordered the unit below before seeing the post up thread about TopGo.

I can order the TopGo and it would reach me on Wednesday, the same as the unit below. Should I do that then return one of them or might this other unit work?

Amazon delivered one day early the first one I ordered on the open road and my initial impression is positive. The first test comes in 2 days.

Sorry I wasn't clear, I have the Topgo unit and so far no complaints.

I was trying to decide on whether I should get the TopGo as an alternative. I did order both and the Andobil unit arrived one day early (yesterday).

The Andobil unit looks like it will work ok, but the test will be driving on the open road tomorrow. If the Andobil fails then I can try out the TopGo on my next run this Sunday.

My new a/c vents are finally being installed today under warranty. The SA complained that the cost was something like $1.2K.

In the meantime, they labelled my windshield wipers as in "fair condition" and recommended that they be replaced. Sorry, but it still bothers me that the wipers are no longer under the basic warranty.

I don't think I've ever had a car that had a warranty for wear parts?? Or are you talking about the maintenance plan?

Yes, I should have been more specific.
