Lesson learn from my new X5
I am writing this post for everyone who about to make a purchase or lease a new X5.
Be aware, MAKE SURE YOU CHECK EVERY SINGLE DETAILS before you drive off the dealer. I picked up my X5 2 weeks ago. On 2nd day, I found there is wind noise when I drive over 60km/h, then I discover there was a dent on my wood trim and stretch on my A-pile. I went back to details, and they. said they cannot found the wind noise problem, and they took some pictures and said they will see what BMW can do on dent and stretch. Today, I got a response that BMW claim "Client cause those damage, it is not manufacture defects". I know I cannot fight back as I did not point those issue out before I drove off the dealership. So, lesson to learn. Make sure you check everything and whatever your sales man told you, refuse to take delivery if there is a damage. Regarding the wind noise, I finally figured it out myself which was caused by the front windshield molding was not installed properly. For a close to $100K vehicle but with these kind of built quality and customer service experience. I will rather deal with other brand instead. Sorry BMW, you had good product but had bad manufacturing team and dealer to support you. Good luck for all other pre-X5 owner, hope you don't go thru the same troubles. Cheer! |

A dealer told me last week that its standard equipment. Maybe that particular dealership is giving them away but not others, dunno..However, when you see it, its sort of a joke, you can make up your own and have a much nicer one It stashes in the left rear corner of the cargo area behind the pull out cover.

Your joking right?? You sure do see this on other German vehicles. I have seen transmissions fail 2 blocks from the dealership on $150k Stuttgart built Porsche’s. These problems are in all manufacturing in modern vehicles.

The other day I took it for a software update and when I got home the seat was dirty and a slight rip in the seat. At first they attempted to point the finger at me. All I can say is take pictures pre-delivery if you can as well as taking pictures of your car before service.

My BMW and Porsche dealers has never refused to deal with delivery issues after I’ve taken delivery which is usually just a quick walk around. I have no intention of doing anything like that list ever. Talk about killing the special moment...

It is insane to go over some lists at the dealer. It is their job to prep and check the car. I always refuse Genius or sales people delivery sh-peals - just take it and go - takes 2 minutes for delivery |

I absolutely disagree with original post to scare off buyers with inspecting every little detail. If I had to do that during my inspection it would ruin my experience. A quick walk around to make sure any obvious damage/scratches/rip/tear should be more than enough. Any hidden areas and obvious manufacture defects would be taken care even if it was discovered at a later time.
Sounds like there was a obvious damage to your wood trim that was missed. if the damage was in an area that cant be accidentally damage or in a hidden area, I'm sure BMW would have no problem taking care of it. I'm sure your experience was an isolated incident and should not be consider typical occurrence with BMW. |

Hey folks, my post wasn't meant to mean you need to go over every item with the SA during delivery acceptance, its more of a grocery list of things people can choose from. Some may require the SA or their Genius to help with while still at the dealer because they can help you figure them out like; getting your Connected acct activated, get a little bit of training on iDrive, connecting your phone to the car, etc. Some people are hi tech adverse and can use the help, the rest can be done at home.
However, once you drive off the lot, all bets are off and it becomes your job to convince the dealer that you didn't cause the issue, as we have seen in many posts here. I'm not referring to tech issues, just the physical damage, missing parts type issues that some have posted about having to deal with. So pick the ones that you want to do while at the dealer, its up to you, its just nice to have a checklist you can pick from instead of relying on memory, especially during an exciting event like picking up your new X5. |

I bought my X3 as a CPO. Anyone here familiar with the checklist a CPO car goes through? When I picked it up, I brought my tire tread gauge with me and low and behold, the tread depth was at the bare minimum. 3/32", I knew it would fail my state inspection as they inspect the car and estimate that what they see will still be legal within 12 months, which is the timeframe for the inspection sticker.
When I brought this up to the dealer, they argued with me. They showed me their CPO inspection paperwork where it said the tires had plenty of tread left. I brought them out to the car, put my gauge on it and said...see for yourself. They then sent a mechanic out with his own gauge and ended up replacing the tires on the spot. To me, this is pretty basic stuff, I mean you can look at the tires and pretty much tell if they are ok or not. So what about all the stuff you cannot look at? Once you drive off the lot, you're in purgatory. Just read through AndroidRobots list of issues and how he is being treated. You all have a choice. |
