True M50i MPG
I'm considering an X5 M50i to replace my M550i. What's the true MPG of it on the highway. I can get 30 mpg highway with the M550i and I know it can't achieve that.
I got 19 max with a 2011 X5 50i but EPA states 22 highway. PS: does anyone have the Oyster with blue trim on an X5? Photos please. I love that look in the X7 but it's just too big for my needs.

I only have ~3K miles on mine and driving has been very sporadic because of COVID. I do have a couple of 350 mile each way road trips. On those I've gotten around 24MPG. The vast majority of that was wide open roads on cruse control. There was a little backroads spirited driving . It was in Sport+ with the AC running full time.
All of my day-to-day driving has been REALLY short drives and I've been enjoying the acceleration but they are 14-15MPG. |

Just did a 400 mile road trip. Me, the wife and 2 kids. Rooftop carrier. No spirited driving at all. Comfort Plus the whole time. Average just over 20MPG.

Not a M50i but rather a X5MC. On a 500 mile road trip I averaged just about 21mpg with 5 people in the car and a trunk full of luggage.
In typical NYC driving, I average more like 11-12mpg Alan

Note: Later MY20 and MY21 models with IW/NG have the correct lower dash color in ivory white.

In 3k miles I’ve been getting 16mpg around town and low 20s on the motorway. However I tend to drive everywhere in Sport Plus. When I’m eco on a long drive I’ve surprisingly managed 27mpg.

My highway MPG seems to be very speed-sensitive. At 70mph, I might get 23-24. But at speeds above that, it drops off very fast. When comparing reported MPG figures, you really need to know how fast they drive.

yes because drag force is a function of velocity squared - so the relationship between the amount of energy needed to move the car and it's speed is not linear. That's why the same car with two different engines, one with 400HP and the other with 500HP may only have a top speed difference of a few MPH. This also explains why your MPG will drop off significantly after about 65 MPH and why the US has set speed limits of 55MPH back in the 70s during the fuel crisis.

Originally with 21s on the car..... I averaged 17.5mpg on my daily commute and routine..... which is some city, and some moderate highway speed driving.
After dynotune, I averaged 18.5 mpg under the same circumstances. After installing big, heavy 22" wheels, I went back down to 17.5 mpg average. I can't provide an honest "only highway" mpg..... because my "only highway" drives generally include the autobahn..... in which case I average about 10.5mpg..... lol |
