Strange Smell from Engine Bay
HI
First BMW X5 M50d and new around here, I have done nearly 1000miles in the car. I am getting this strange smell of like burning and burning plastic when driven about hour and the vents are open and sucking air in. I don't drive hard or mad as the car I feel is still running in. Does anyone think I need to get it check out by BMW service centre or is this normal? need anymore information Please ask away. Thanks Paul |

I believe I've read another thread like this before..... and I think the overall consensus was that it was just the "newness" of much of the underhood plastics getting warmed up for the first time.
If I recall, the smell went away after a short period. If it's a STRONG smell, I would definitely bring it in.

Just an update to this I drove no more than 2-3 miles about 10 mins. Car when home vents open sucking air and having the smell again. That I thought was very strange due to the short journey? If there are any other posts on this can you point me in the right direction please really worried as I don't want to do any damage to the car. Thanks Paul |
