I may have missed this, but this is the response I got from BMW.

"The first generation of the Digital Key compatible with Android devices is no longer supported as of July 1, 2020. I regret any disappointment this may cause. You will, however, still have the ability to use your Digital Key Card."

Either way, I have Verizon and wanted to confirm that that does not work. Oh well.

This is a bummer. I understand the security aspect of it but as the vehicle was advertised with this feature, BMW should provide a solution free of charge. Since I have a 07.2019 X5, I can’t use android or iOS as I have DK1.0

It says 1st Generation, maybe the current one is 2nd generation or something? I was at dealer picking up my X5 and he said I can set it up with my android phone by logging in to website.

I confirm, I got the same answer in German for my X5 (G05 produced in March 2019). It worked form me until 7-OCt-2020, and then expired and could not be renewed.
Answer from BMW:
"Bezüglich Ihrer Anfrage zur Verlängerung des Dienstes Digital Key ist leider eine Buchung oder Verlängerung für den Dienst Digital Key oder Digital Key for5 für Samsung Smartphone nicht mehr möglich."

This is really disappointing, as I used this heavily. I can't believe they just de-activate it in the app! So any vehicle created before July 2020, will have digital key not working.

BMW screwed Android users once again!

Class action lawsuits do not exist in Switzerland. For civil lawsuits, Swiss Lawyers are paid by the hour.

Threads like this are reinforcing my adverse feelings toward BMW. Their arrogance and lack of support to their customers is becoming a major factor in moving me toward other brands. It is sad.

Everyone does it.

The almighty Harley Davidson Motor Company developed an app (H-D Connect) for the 2020 model year touring motorcycles. It worked pretty well (tire pressure, battery voltage, would notify if anyone was tampering with m/c, etc.), but after about 7 months of trying to get the app to operate as advertised, they just gave up and turned off the service 09/01/2020.

Instead of employing some decent s/w developers to correct the coding issues it did have, they just threw their hands up and gave up.

No wonder the company is going downhill fast.

Maybe not everyone. I understand Tesla is doing a pretty good job with their tech. Getting service and repair is another story.
