USB-C Cables and Mount options for rear seats

I am thinking of grabbing set of USB-C cables for rear seats for USB-C samsung devices as well as Micro-USB older tablets, is there anything specific I need to look for, does anyone know the amperage of the ports, do I need fast/high amp charging cable or cheapest one is OK since I don't want to bottleneck charging speed by getting lower rated cables, on the other hand don't want to pay more for fancy cable if it won't help.

Are there mounts available for aftermarket tablets for the mount slots on rear seats?

On my last X5, my kids just used USBc adapters for everything from iPads to android tablets. They worked fine.

The USB-C ports in the second row are 3A which is the minimum spec for USB-C cables. Any cable will do. I think you can expect about 60W max which is plenty even for tablets.

That's great to know, I was not familiar with USB-C until I plugged my 65W Thinkpad charger to charge my Samsung Note phone.. At first I was hesitant, I thought it might fry the phone, I remembered reading somewhere that USB-C is smart, so I plugged, and it charged my phone. That's amazing. I don't expect seat back plugs to charge my laptop, though. I'll grab 2 pack USB-C to USB-C and 2 pack USB-C to microUSB.

Just one small complaint, I wish BMW kept the multimedia source USB plug in the center console storage or in glove box. I got one of those tiny USB storage cruiser flash drive, it doesn't look as bad as full size stick, but still..

How about finding dock or mount for seat back slots?

Read my progress thread in my signature. BMW makes several different mounting options for tablets, and it was one of the first things I did.

Thanks, also a beautiful X5! I'll read the full thread while sipping my coffee tomorrow.
Tablet mount is $120+tax? I think I got the tablet for cheaper than that. Amazon 10"

Thanks! I did as well. I bought my tablets refurbished.

Just be sure that whatever tablets you buy.... BMW makes a case for them. They only offer cases for about a half-dozen different tablets if I recall.

The mount "alone" won't work.... you need the BMW specific tablet case as well.

EDIT.... here you go. You have to pick one of these tablets:

I'm using the 9.7" Tab A..... and I purchased 4 cables (2 as spares)... USBC to Micro USB, with right-angle connections. They are 10" long, and pretty snug. You may want to go with a 12" cable depending on the tablet you use.

Thanks for the heads up! I wasn't aware it required the tablet case to go with mount.
