DAP favors the car in front more with recent update?
Today I was driving on a freeway using DAP steering assist. I noticed that the lane centering function gave me more left and right wiggle than before the 11/2023 update. Then I realized my car was trying mimic the car in front of me within the lane, like if the car in front drifted towards the left edge the my car would move closer to the left edge too.
Wondering if anyone else have also noticed this behavior. I assume it is working as intended (like following the car in front avoiding a pole hole). But IMO it does work as well in North America as that in Germany since a lot more stupid drivers here lol. |

How fast were you going? Following the vehicle in front has always been a function of Cruise with Steering and Lane control. I think the upper limit was 40mph or so. This is to help when going through construction, around obstacles, etc.

I was going around 80MPH since it's freeway. I too think this is by design and now that you mentioned it, I remember experiencing this behavior before on local road. I just don't remember DAP favoring the front car over true centering at freeway speed.

I don't ever remember it happening at higher speeds but will keep an eye on it since I updated to 11/2023 the other week.

Mine is also like that. And if the car in front change lanes or exit to the right, I feel like the car tries to follow before it corrects itself. This is the case when I am not using the nav or using Waze.

DAP can't even keep the car dead center on a straight road, it's always moving around a bit like a drunk. Any curves, and the car likes to move to the outside edge before it corrects. Often the passenger's notice and yell at my driving, to which I respond, I'm not really driving which does not calm them.

Ok, so what iDrive version were you on before going to 11/2023? I'm still on 3/2022.52 and mine does not exhibit that behavior. In fact, there is no wiggle/ping ponging, its dead straight in its lane using DAP. |

I went from 07/2019 straight to 07/2023 then to 11/2023. I remember 07/2019 has simpler, better lane centering on highway (not following other cars) but cannot pass through local intersections without interruption when losing lane marking. 07/2023 had the following behavior too, handling local intersections better (less interruption when following through intersections) but lane centering was less consistent in general. |

While DAP works quite well on mine, I will never trust it 100% but it certainly covers me when I need both hand to open a water bottle, put my sunglasses on, etc. As humans we just need to know when not to do those sort of things, like around curves, in construction zones, etc. I can tell you though that DAP allows me to drive 10+ hours without arm fatigue which I appreciate! |

We have a 2024 X5 40i with DAP. Our lane keep while using cruise control is pretty good. I have noticed a tendency to mimic the car in front of me.
On a side note, is there a setting in Idrive 8.5 to have the acc adjust the speed based on the speed limit? If so, is there a way to add a few miles over to the current limit by default? |
