They had our car for 5 days, but 2 of those were the weekend and some other items were being fixed. I'm not sure how long the actual software update and (in my case) IRAP session took.

It did reset a lot of settings in the car, but not all of them. One thing to note is if you have disabled auto start/stop with Bimmercode, you will need to disable it again after the update. Thankfully that took all of about 3 mins for me to do last night.

Cornering lights DO come on when turning the wheel at low speed

To the other people on here that now have functional cornering lights, do yours come on in reverse and with the turn indicators?
I had my cornering lights activated after updating to 03/2019.30; it seems mine are performing similar to yours, they come on while the car is in motion and turning but fade out as the turn is completed and car is slowed to a stop. It would seem there is a range of programming options available..interesting. I'm not noticing operation when backing up though, note "may be automatically switched on"..so what, depending upon the cars mood?

Online owner's manual describes the operation as:
Cornering light

In tight curves, for instance on mountainous roads or when turning, an additional, cornering light is switched on that lights up the inside of the curve when the vehicle is moving below a certain speed.

The cornering light is automatically switched on depending on the steering angle.

When driving in reverse, the cornering lights may be automatically switched on regardless of the steering angle.

Smile Fix Released

I talked to the BMW genius this afternoon about an issue I had concerning remote start after the update I had a week ago. That was
resolved and I asked about the cornering lights and he told me he received an e-mail yesterday that on 04/01/2019 BMW issued a fix to the dealerships. I will call tomorrow and verify if they indeed got a fix

Last night I was able to test it.

We have the adaptive headlights, non-laser.

I can confirm that ours work.

I have .30 and did not notice the cornering lights working. I'll check again. The latest is .35 and it is definitely working in that version.

Reading about people having issues with features that used to work before upgrading to .35. I'm scared to upgrade my software.

My cornering lights are working but not sure about when in reverse as I forgot to check near my house early this morning.

Made an appointment today to have my cornering lights enabled. Can’t wait to see these work in person. So far I have no regrets getting the X5 well just 1 I regret not getting the 50i but maybe next time.

My dealer did the IRAP session and got my cornerning light to work, but they dont work with turn indicator and when in reverse. Their head foreman told me he talked to the product engineer about it and was told the cornering light for newer x3, x5 and x7 will only work when the steering wheel is turned at large angle, it doesn't come on in reverse or with turn indicator.

Interested to know as well. I know the dealer recently did a bulletin on my X5 about the wiper hitting the A pillar.

I have mentioned this before, but cornering lights work in reverse and work with turn indicators. Activation is by the degree of steering angle (I have not clocked it). Said another way, turn indicator is not an actuator, steering wheel (and magnitude is). Each time I have made a 90 deg turn they have activated. Additionally, once active its apparent that there is augmented light from them. Once they deactivate, it is a fade out - not an abrupt on/off.

This was active for me as of: 03/2019.35

The way you describe operation is the way I've seen it. I find it useless, however. By the time they come on, I've already entered the area that would have benefitted from illumination earlier.

It frustrates me that BMW does not make software release notes available to the public so you can see what is new - they should really after all it is part of the product you have purchased, and just ask Boeing what can happen if you don't tell the operator exactly what the software does.

It would also be great if they had an area of the ConnectedDrive website where you could report software bugs and suggest/vote for new features.

As cars and their architecture become increasingly dependant on software, this surely has to become the norm.
