Built on WW12.
I am hoping the issue is only with the valve (quality or design). The software issues/bugs for integration of iDrive 8 screen could be as important as the other one. In our case, the engine light came on when the car was parked and on in EV mode for about 15 mins with AC on.

Week 15 build- been at the dealership for nine days. They can't access the DME engine control module to even diagnose this issue. Car will not start. Had to be towed in.

They do have me in a nice loaner, iX 50, but since I didn't buy the 50e from them who knows how long they'll allow me to us it while the 50e is in the shop. Hopefully it is fixed soon.

It is nice and quiet. Plus all of that instant torque at no matter the speed is cool. I'd consider an iX if the range at 80mph were 600 miles or more. Until then I'm sticking with a PHEV.

I do love the one pedal driving feature.

Received the car last week. Just thought I’d add my experience to add to the pool of info.

Barely drove 50 miles and having issues with engine light, and drivetrain failing when stopped at a light.
Only seemed to happen with EV mode or with hybrid and the electric motor would fail.
The car actually drove fine with battery-hold mode. So i wondered if the problem was with the electric motor or system etc.

Anyways took the car in, apparently there is an issue with charge control module - battery wouldn’t charge with level 2 charging. It charged fine with level 1 at home via 120v trickle charge.

Got back my car fixed today. Everything looks working similar to the day first I got the car. The service wants me to drive for a while and check in with them if any of those issue shows up again.

What was the issue that caused the engine light to come on?

It was the HV Battery Refrigerator Valve. However, at the dealership on the third day, the second screen went off completely. They had to reprogram it too.

I would make them take it back whether it’s BMW or the dealer I would go to the sales manager and say you’ve got to do some thing and I would trade it for a gas x5 this is one the reasons I would not buy a full hybrid yet from bmw Toyota yes bmw no but I have a general rule if I did buy a new car and it’s in the garage within the first 5000 miles for anything I trade it . I won’t even take a car back to a dealer for a oil change I do them my self I hate a dealer to take my car into a garage for anything I didn’t buy a new car to have problems, and I certainly don’t want them working on a new car for anything I have two friends waiting for this car there in Q I’ll show them I’m sure they will cancel there orders .

Originally they told me 6 to 8 weeks for manufacturing and delivery from Germany. However, I got the part number, searched and found on line and told the dealership I can get the part for them. The service supervisor searched again and finally could get the part in 5 days. I still do not know if this is a design flaw or a batch of bad parts. If this is a design issue, I should see the engine light come back on after 300 to 500 miles' drive.

I just brought my brand new 50e with 350 miles on it to the dealer today because the check engine light came on yesterday. Decided to do a search to see if this was an issue for others and came across this thread. I do not know yet what the diagnosis is but the dealer said it could take a few days to get back to me. After reading through this thread I am not hopeful it will be a quick fix.

I am not sure where to find the exact week but we completed the build on 5/6/23 and the car arrived at the dealership on 6/14/23.

We did get confirmation that it is an issue with the AC not being able to cool the HV battery system. They were very vague in the text and said it could take several weeks to get the part in.

So, it looks like as of today 138 50'e have the same problem only in the US. That's the amount of valves in backorder. The most I could find out for my case is that someone will call me on the 29th! crazy how slow they move..

The SA checked on BMW's internal system. I told him someone got his car fixed based on what I read here and he told me that there are no parts anywhere. He said 138 are on backorder.

Just got the yellow check engine light on my 50e. Car doesn't give me any information. Seems to be operating normally. We're going to bring it in tomorrow. It was delivered to me May 18th. Built not long before, probably Week 18 I think. Thanks for sharing this information. I'm scared to hear what they tell me...
