Removing Vinyl Shadowline Trim

So I purchased the product from BMWShadowline.com. I realized how terrible I am at applying vinyl, especially to a curved surface like the window trim.

Long story short, it looks like ass. How do I remove it? Heat and peel?

It took 2 hours to apply and 3 hours to remove. I suck. My fingertips are numb.

It's a quality product. It's just really difficult to apply if you don't have experience. When I got done applying, it looked like gloss black swiss cheese.

The worst part is the little bits and pieces of vinyl that are lingering. I peel tiny specs off every time I inspect the trim.

I had to do mine twice. The first time I did it, I had a few bubbles and folds. I got it off by tearing at one end, then peeling off. Use Goo Gone to get rid of the left over glue.

The second time I did it, it came out really well. Patience, really is key, and a second person. The second time I did it, I did a little bit at a time. The piece just below the driver's window one day. The piece just below the driver's rear window another day. Then the same with the passenger side. Finally, working on the top pieces that go in one piece. The trick to all of them is to try to stay as centered as possible in the vinyl, and remember that it stretches! When you get to that curve, go ahead and apply it with folds and everything, then pull and stretch at it to get the folds and bubbles out. If these statements are worthless without pics, I'll be happy to snap one for you.

I know exactly what you mean about stretching when you come to the curve in the trim. I stretched too much and wound up causing white stretch marks in the vinyl. That has to be the hardest part.

I left the trim below the window covered in vinyl. I haven't removed it because that's the only area that looks great. The lower window trim is a straight line and therefore the easiest to apply.

To do the curve parts better you just have to apply heat with a heatgun or even a blowdryer. The vinil will soften and its much easier to do bends

Should I just have a local vinyl shop use their product for this? How is there not any easy to install kit available for us to black out the chrome trim. Is this shadowline trim the only option..would you all recommend a professional to install it?

I had a local shop do mine... $150 installed and i was in and out in 30 minutes. Having the right tools and experience was worth it to me.

12 months later and it's still looking great.
