Delayed delivery

My dealer says the 2023 X1 we ordered cannot be delivered until Nov 4/5 due to the official release date as mandated by BMW. That means we cannot take delivery even if the X1 is there, on the lot, before that date.

My question is can the dealer let random customers test drive my X1 before that date?

They shouldn’t have any test drives before the release date. If you haven’t already I would put down a deposit so that they will mark it sold on arrival.

Yes, we put a deposit down when we ordered it to our specifications. That's a relief about no test drives before release date.

Back in October 2017, one of my local dealers let me test drive and then I purchased and brought it home after doing this. This was on the then all new G01 X3 before the official release date. I was told since the MSO arrives with the car, it's ok to sell it immediately.
So I guess it's up to the dealership.

If you see your car at the dealership, check the odometer and note the mileage. Put a “Do not test drive” sign on it

I remember some story about a car that someone had purchased. The dealer used that car at the DC Auto show. Allowed people to touch it and get in it throughout the car show. To say the owner was pissed is an understatement as he found out without the dealer telling him.

I just asked my dealer if they'll offer up my X1 to sit in or test drive, and he assured me he wouldn't. Annoying to have to wait though.
