We are just Goldilocksing between the X3 and X5. I used to have a Jeep Grand Cherokee so X5 is in that range just 5" longer and 1" wider. Yes, I would love a hitch and at just $550 option...to have just in case. Can they be added by BMW later or is frame bolting and not having the electric wiring an issue? Besides Covid did a majority of X5's not have hitch? Seems I might have an issue selling car without one.

I’ve got a deposit (refundable) on a X5 40i M Sport and a new well equipped X3 M40i just showed up at another dealer. I’ve owned a X3 in the current gen before and liked it, but the 21 inch wheels seem like overkill. I’ll probably stick with the X5 as it’s been built with a touchscreen. Equipped levels are about the same it’s only $3k more as the X5 gets a $2000+ more in rebates from Penfed+BMW CCA so it’s probably just the better buy. I do like the looks of the Brooklyn Grey M40i though, it’s really cool looking!

X3 M40i Pros - looks, more power, better size (for me), less expensive, has Harmon Kardon option

Cons - seats meh, drives firm, no passenger lumbar, interior is cheap in places, tires would be impossible to find for winter and need a new wheel/tire set so there goes any savings, paying mid $60ks for a very similar car I got 3 years ago for $41k new (‘19 30i with $10k+ in discounts)

X5 Pros - much better interior, tech still better especially interior ambient lighting, rear tailgate is more useful, drives really well plus adaptive suspension, seems to hold value better (comparing KBB), interior again is just another level, no need to change wheels/tires as they’re All Seasons, It’s more impressive to people who don’t know cars.

Cons- slower, a tad big for my wife and I, probably doesn’t have the mojo of the X3 M40i when you talk to enthusiasts at meetups

I’m still sort of weighing the options but had the X5 been built without the touchscreen I’d probably sway to the X3.

Seriously though, you already know what the right choice is - the one you'll be thankful for in 1 year, the choice that will provide more enjoyment over time.

Moved to "Awaiting Carrier Assignment"...early 12/7
Now "dispatched from factory" as of 3pm EST on 12/9
Arrived at dealer on Monday 12/13
Delivery scheduled for today 12/14

SA says arrival at dealer tomorrow, 12/10. Delivery to be scheduled after they inspect the vehicle.
SA provided new update. ETA at dealer now 12/13.

And they have been successfully built and included? Not significantly delayed? The only downside is losing the foot sensor to open the liftgate?

I’m ordering mine tomorrow and will ask them to try to add the hitch in the system. The dealer said one customer has been waiting months to order bc it’s a must so you’d think they would have tried if that easy. Fingers crossed.

They likely do not know. Many CA's don't get the info BMWNA sends out.

No delay! I can't explain it but it’s worth a try. The kick to open feature is so overrated, limo.

Someone else reported this morning that they were not able to get it ordered. Sounds like they removed the availability, perhaps the expected supply has been spoken for.

I suspect the hitch is a dealer quota thing.
My prod# is 672***, which seems to be an earlier allocation. Maybe that's why dealer can add hitch to my order.
