My dealer had a drive event and got a chance to drive an msport 40i. The engine was running all day so had a chance to listen to the exhaust when warm. I really don’t care how sounds on cold startup.
I went outside to the back and friend hit the gas and was very impressed with the sound of the msport exhaust. A good ‘burble’ to it. Compared to my f15 msport with mppk, was night and day. Inside the cabin I put in sports mode and blasted down country backroads. It sounded awesome! My rep said there is no exhaust sounds thru speaker but I’m not sure he didn’t know for sure, I thought they all do now?

You can code the sound off but you won't really hear anything. That's why they had to add in sounds from the speaker. It'll be super quiet if you turn it off. But you can try it on and off to compare for yourself when you get it done.

The speakers pipe fake engine noise. Once the coding is available you should be able to turn it off.

I actually don't want the sound off but was just confirming the speakers do manufacture fake noise contrary to what my rep said.

Is this sound truly fake, as in pre-recorded audio, or is the true engine sound being electronically sent to the speakers?

Engine sound does come from the speakers. The cockpit is kinda soundproof so you can't hear the engine otherwise.

It is pre recorded sound of this specific engine. It's just like an mp3 file. Like the door chimes. When you code it there might be different sounds to choose from.
But as for the engine sound, there is no microphone capturing the live engine sounds.

I don't think it's pre-recorded but I could be wrong. I turned ASD off in my car (X3 M40i until ym X5 50i arrives) and it sounds the same but extremely quite even in sport+ with ASD off. I have a proper M sport exhaust obviously and you can barely hear it even at full throttle without ASD
